do you mostly race from a roll or from a stop?

if you race from a roll street tires will work fine unless you make serious power.

but my friend has a cammed LS1, with 3.70 gears and a 3500 rpm stall, with nittos. and his car hooks pretty good on the street if he gets the tires pretty warm from driving around. he still spins but his car would pull a 1.7 60 ft time before the cam, with 2.73 gears. so with a stock LT1 and 3.42s you shouldn't have too much trouble hooking, unless you rev it to the moon and dump it. i would think BFG drag radials would hook better since they are supposed to hook better at the track. but i don't know if they'd hook from just driving around. (don't know if that would heat them up enough)

The best hooking tire Ive ever used on the street were my 225/60/16 Blizzaks. BFG's just smoked right off the car on the street, these spun a little but hooked by far the best, no joke.

What kind of power are you putting down? I used to run a set of Nittos that hooked good, but I got a better jump w/ ET Streets. This was w/ a Procharged '95 TA.

I'm not sure what to do with this...

This is the drag racing forum. Street racing is illegal and causes our insurance rates to go up. So.... No street racing questions.

However, since I have noplace else to move this to and you are asking about traction, it is helpful to know how much power you have and you modifications and traction conditions. Otherwise we are just peaing n the breeze with wild guesses.

Run e.t. streets for max traction on the street. But you will be buying tires very often. Next up is some wide BFG DRs on 15" rims. They will last longer and have less traction. Then comes Nitto DRs, they have less hook than a BFG DR but last longer yet. Just depends how much traction you need and how long you want the tires to last. You could also run the e.t. streets or DRs at 15-20 psi on the street for even more traction, but crappy handling.

I wouldn't do et streets on the street.. the street needs safety and i feel the wals on the ets are too soft for the street.

I would do DRs.

I ran a 26x10.5-15 ET Street for over a year and a half and had no problems racing with them. The only time it got interesting is when I drove around on them w/ a radial tire in the front. The two different tire designs really make it interesting and keeps ya awake on those long drives home.
