Running DR's without breaking rear

I have a 95 T/A and the only mods are a CAI, flowmaster catback with no cat and a shifter. The car is an M6 and will have Nitto 555r drag radials. What would be the best psi and rpm to launch at without breaking the rear? Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Travis

My experience was (back then) that I could make roughly 400 launches before the rear would let go... I ran the original rear for about 400 passes when it broke. Then I installed 3.73s and a TA cover and got another 400 passes or so out of it. I then installed a 12 bolt after it let ago. No problems since.

I would generally launch around 1500 back when I had a six speed but since I was bracket racing and trying to cut a good light I had a rather involved procedure of iming the rpm bounce with the lights and my foot. My goal was not the quickest ET but consistent ET.

I suspect a high rpm clutch dump on a very sticky track would have yielded a broken gears in a very short time.

Despite "everyone" claiming how old fashioned bias ply ET Streets, or true slicks will break rears, the actual truth is the most damaging part of the launch is the shock of engagement. To that end, a tire with a more flexible sidewall will be easier on the rear than a drag radial. The problem is when we hook up, we like to push harder (human nature) so the potential is there to do some serious damage.

I should mention that I was also street driving my car back when I used drag radials.

A few trips to the track and some reasonable launches are likely to be ok, depending of course on the condition of the rear and a host of other factors but there is no promise of durability. If you plan on serious abuse and lots of track time start saving for a more durable rear end and at the very least invest in a AAA Plus car so you can get a towe home if needed.

The two times I broke my rear I had the car pushed out to the front gate and Triple A picked me up... The track was 95 miles from my house and the Triple A Plus covered up to 100 miles.

I pulled the cover off of the rear and the gears look good, and there wasn't any metal in the fluid. I have regular street tires for everyday use, and these drag radials on the car may see 3 or 4 events this year with maybe 5 passes each event. The car has 3.42 gears in it. The track is about 30 miles from my house, so that isn't too bad. As of right now, there isn't any whining coming from the gears.
I just didn't want to launch to hard and destroy the rear. The car does have a centerforce cluth with about 4k on it.
