I need to learn to drive...

Granted I have made a total of 4 passes down the track but I already know there is definitely an art to launching a mostly stock M6. First I just spun the tires and then I bogged the motor. My best 60' of the 4 runs was 2.35 sec. I'm thinking a little more RPM and just a little slipping of the clutch to keep the RPMs up until it hooks and I can nail it. My best run was 14.19 @ 100.53 so I feel pretty confident if I could ever learn to drive the thing I could get it below 14. Oh well, it was fun anyway. Maybe next time.

Somehow I didn't think I was alone on this one. I have the 17" ten spoke wheels with 275/40's which I thought might help. I'm thinking now just practice practice practice. Definitely a very fine line between spinning and bogging but I am confident I will figure it out...that or blow the car up in the process.

Re: I need to learn to drive...

Thanks for the replys guys, nice to know I am not the only amateur behind the wheel. I think I can figure it out but I am a little worried about toasting my clutch. The car had 80,000 when I got it and I haven't replaced it so I think it is original and it now has 100,000. Still holds fine but not sure how many drag strip launches it has left. Oh well, if it fries I'll just have to break out some wrenches and replace it with something better.

That is the very thing I am worried about since this is my daily driver. The car feels like something needs to slip, tires or clutch. It won't launch good from idle RPM as we already know and yet if it is the tires slipping you ain't moving. So that only leaves slipping the clutch a little to keep the RPMs up until the car is rolling fast enough to match a the higher RPM before completely engaging the clutch. Make sense? You would then be acting almost like a stall converter. Bye bye clutch.

Ah, but the A4 is so much better for drag racing. 17" Nittos best 60' I have cut is a 1.69, but most are in the 1.7s. Throw a stall in there and have fun beating the crap out of many cars out of the hole. Hell, I beat an 02 1LE SS Camaro with heads/cam, nitrous, and full bolt ons by taking him out of the hole. Then again, his trap speed was 122mph to my 113
