How many mph do you pick up with slicks?
I went to the track last week and was kind of disapointed. I ran the 1/8 in 8.1@92 and 12.42@116.24 in the 1/4 on street radials. I could only give it about 40-50% in first. I would shift to second and go WOT and spin all over the place. I would let out hit third and mash it again. There was a guy there running 116 and getting 11.40's. I don't really care about the ET yet but my question is this.
If I put slicks on the car and could go WOT from beginning to end how many MPH do you guys thind I would pick up? A friend of mine was running 13.6@107. With ET streets he would run 12.54@110. He got three MPH on a relatively slow car. Have any of you guys experienced this problem?

My 60ft times are in the 2.03-2.05 range. How do you guys figure that the mph will go down? That is like saying giving half throttle on the dyno will yield more hp. If you can only give it 50% in first and spin second, let out then hit third, how can I loose mph when I can hammer it from the get go?
Because every person I know that has switched from Nittos to ET Streets has lost MPH but gained ET.
I gained a LOT of ET, but held pretty even on trap. This was on a blower car though and temperature would've made a big difference.

In general with ET Streets you have more traction ie. more friction and grabbing so your MPH should go down a little.
From what Ive seen MPH usually goes down alittle. The way I think of it is this.....your average speed over the 1/4 is faster allowing you to reach the trap in less time even with a slower top speed. So its your average speed that sees the improvment giving you a lower ET but not nessisarily a higher ending trap speed.
If your 116 isn't the FULL potential MPH in your setup, then maybe there is something to gain.
But if 116 is the MAX you can get with a great short time and all, then going to Streets isn't gonna get you much..if anything at all.
I lost a mph when I went from street tires to BFG DR's! With my 60's dropping a tenth

I lost over 1 MPH switching from stock radials to BFG DR's.
The only reason someone were to gain MPH with slicks would simply be because the car was unable to hook whatsoever.
But for most, you lose MPH, no sidewall and the tires absorb hp. What works for great traction does not work for the topend.
