went to the track the other day to try out my TH350 transmission w/ a B&M 3000 stall.

pulled a 1.88 60ft
8.37@83.19 MPH in the 1/8th
13.09@103.8 MPH in the 1/4

the TH350 transmission and that stall gave me about 2 to 3 tenths on the big end.

Im ready to break into this motor and hit the 12's!

OK...I'm confused...Did you have an A4 in the car? If so, I can't understand why anyone would pull a 4L60E out, just to put a 3 speed in that's not any stronger. 700's/4L60E's are more than capable of running deep into the 10's...IF they're built right.

I had an A4. I have been through TWO 4L60E transmissions and due to my racing habits EVERY weekend and budget wise (im a broke college student), I spent 300$ on a fully built TH350 tranny plus another 500$ on a 3000 B&M stall. Where as I would have chunked down $1,000++ plus JUST to get a 4L60E rebuilt stock without a stall.

As far as it being "stronger" this TH350 is very much stronger than a stock 4L60E. I have the upgraded bands and everything in it, along with a Transpack and shift kit for under 300$. If the TH350 does decide to go out on me, it'll probably only cost me 200$ to get it rebuilt. My transmission man said that this transmission would out last the life of the engine and rear end. He said he would stand behind it for two years and he said I could race it everyday and never have any problems with the transmission. I have no complaints. Cruise control still works, speedometer still works, it'll shift 1,2, and into 3rd if its in drive. crusin' around town going 50-60 mph, it tachs about 2 G's. Im keeping the stock gear in for gas reasons.

Im not dissing the 4L60E at all, it has a hell of a hole shot! As matter of fact, it might find its way back into my car. but for reliability reasons at the track, and the fact that I don't travel that much but around town, I could sacrifice the over drive.

...IF they're built right
thats a big IF around here in NC. No one is really a "respectable" builder and too many people around here with F-Bodys have been that route and now have TH350's.

Jason Keith, from Raleigh, NC has a TH350. Check out his 10 second pass

BJ Deans, from Wilson, NC (who was in the LT1 GMHTP shootout) now has a TH350. Check out his 10 second pass.

Linwood Lamm, from Wilson, NC also has TH350. Here is his LOW 10 second pass.

All of these guys have been the "built 4L60E" route. While it has lasted them maybe a year at best, they all went TH350 for reliability reasons. All of those cars are street cars that will pass North Carolina tests. Except maybe for linwoods

You won't regret that TH350 unless you do a lot of freeway driving. My friend went through a couple 4L60E tranny's before he swapped to an M6.

All internals are stock , never been touched .
Damn those are some awesome times! Sounds like 4:10 gears really wakeup a M6 car. What are you shifting at? What elevation is that track at?

Yes, I will grant you all the fact that a 350 is cheaper than a 4L60E, but NO!...It's not any stronger.
I've got 700's in 10 second cars, and a 4L60E in a '97 'Bird that went consistant 11.0's.
My personal car runs 12.0's on a 700 that I built 3 years ago.

No times yet (going to 1/8th mile next Thursday) but was wondering what you high mileage guys are shifting at? I was racing with a buddy tonight and shifting around 5k to be safe. Motor has 141k on it.

My 4L60e started slipping at 113,000 miles and a 12.23 pass.

Now I have 114,000 and a TH350.

I have gone 11.52 at 115.98 mph with a 1.55 60'er.

Makes little sense to pay huge dollars for overdrive and the mating converter unless you put loads of miles on the car.

There are a couple of guys who have pushed relatively stock 4L60Es to low 11s, maybe even high 10s, but when they break, there are better choices.
