Help analyze/break down some time slips

What could you guys observe from some of these time slips. I'll try to include as much info as possable.

Temp 55-60* that day
humidity 56
bar pressure 30.24
@1300asl
very mild wind or so 10/26/03

modifications
slp cai, jet hot long tubes, catback, hotcam w/1.5's, pcmforless chip, on standard c5 wheels w/bfg drag radials, I have 3.23 gears, 700r4 tranny, stock tc.

1st pass 2nd pass
60ft: 2.293 60: 2.082
660: 9.056 660: 8.798
e.t.: 13.936 @101.716 e.t.: 13.655 @101.740

Car feels pretty good wot. Those launches are 3/4 throttle off idle and after I get goin pedal all the way down, I didnt really heat the tires much, just a dry burnout for a sec to clean em off, and in drive at wot the tranny shifts at about 4500. The mph seems a little low and I'm thinkin cus the tranny shifts at 4500 the traps arent as fast. Next time this april i'll have a 2500 stall tc and et drags on 16's as my only majors things done, i'll stall it up and shift the tranny my self at least 5500 or so. So what can you guys tell me. Thanks for any input.

What exactly do you need to know?

I can see an almost identical mph on both runs so that tells me the engine is making consistant HP. The quicker pass on the second run is a direct result of the better 60' times.

faded93bird 03-14-2004 11:18 PM

What’s the elevation there? Your times seem a little slow as I am running the same setup except a different tune, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 3.42 gears and stock wheels with 26 inch tall tires.

$hawn 03-15-2004 12:09 AM

The elevation where i'm at is between 1100-1400ft. Yeah my times do seem a little down, but I think it's cus the tranny shifts at wot at about 4500rpms, should be able to pull till 6k though, some similar times like 13.60, and 13.63, the mph was around 103 or so with pretty much the same 60ft. with another guys car the same day. Think the very early shifts are killin my times?

faded93bird 03-15-2004 12:19 AM

Ya that could be your problem. I shift at 6-6.2k. I also was running rich and had a miss on the frist runs and was lean an still had the miss in the scond set of runs.

so i do beleive there is a lot more in your car but you need to take advantage of the higher rpm power of this cam.

MauriSSio 03-16-2004 01:43 AM

what were your 1/8 mphs?

$hawn 04-06-2004 12:48 AM

1/8 time were 9.056 on the first pass, second was a 8.798

$hawn I ran your car very quickly through the pro stock et formula and quarter jr. your car should run high 12s when your done making changes.

The mph is low. You need to shift around 6k rpm. Hot cam cars can take it. This will add 5 mph to your traps. Not much help on et.

A good quality 3000 rpm converter will take off a full second from your et (the 13.9 pass), assuming you can hook it up. Sell your BFG's to your competition, they are not working, install the slicks. You'll be flying next year.

Hot cam cars here with 1.6 rockers and cutouts = 12.80s @ 107.

T/A lt1 04-06-2004 08:59 AM

You need a good 3000 converter some 1.6 or 1.7's would be better for the Hotcam setup. A cutout p/u 1tenth and 1.5mph on my car. When I had the Hotcam kit, stock heads, 3.23's and a 2800 vigilante converter w/ cutout I ran 12.50's@107mph then with tuning and 3.42's ran 12.30's@109mph in decent weather. Just work on those 60's and get you some good tires and converter and you will be running alot better. Later Clint

Those times seem definiately low to me...
I run 8.7 in the 1/8m with a 2.2' 60 feet, and I have no LTs, no Hotcam, no rockers and no drag radials, on a totally unprepped asphalt, but again you see I have an M6. Yes, your car makes consistent mphs, so that's good.
You should get the shift points ruled out, and try again, I HOPE it will be better by about 0.5sec in the 1/4...
Good luck!

$hawn 04-07-2004 11:52 PM

Welp the 18th i'm goin to the track, I did install a 2500 tc, i'll be using 16" et drags instead of the 17" drag radials, and play with the pressure a little and heat em up more, last time I didnt. Also I do plan on shifting at 6k, or at least higher than 4500. I need some better valve spring so I can use some 1.6's, I dont feel comfortable using the lt4's with the 1.6's. I'm thinkin I can drop the 60ft down at least 2 tenths, and the tc should help by like 2-3 tenths, should run very low 13's might even nick a very high 12.

andy katzelis 04-08-2004 07:53 AM

I don't think you'll get the 12s, but I hope you do, that'd be awsome.

I don't know what valve springs you have but you need to rev to 6k.

The hot cam springs are excellent springs for their intended application, and they are made for the hot cam with 1.6 rockers. The OEM (GM) testing on these products is very intense. I've worked in manufacturing all my life, believe me GM stuff especially is excellent quality. In fact for the application I challenge you to find any spring better, for the low cost of $28 a set. I believe these springs are tested and manufactured to last 100,000 miles, also.

The 16" sidewall will also help tremendously to absorb the initial hit, and launch the car. Keep you neck stiff, I always forget and end up looking through the bottom of my glasses. hehe

Let us know how it goes, and good luck.

MauriSSio 04-09-2004 01:30 AM

i thought the "HotCam" springs were actually meant for a standard LT4?why the heck would they make a spring that can barely take .525 lift if the LT4 HotCam will be taking it there?shouldnt they have made a much more reliable spring??

Kreinmc 04-09-2004 03:33 PM

Why would your tranny shift at 4500rpms? Is it broken?

$hawn 04-12-2004 11:22 PM

I'm not sure why it only shifts at 4500, I think the spring in the govenor is too heavy, my throttle blades dont open all the way either, only like 70% of the way, at least from what I'v seen w/my auto x-ray scanner, maybe thats why, cuase more throttle should result in higher shifts, i'm gonna play with the tv cable and shift it my self a few times next time out.
