Helemt open or closed face?

Ok I'm almost ready to hit a real track for the first tome since 86 when we didn't even have to wear a helmet. But I would like to not lose any periphial vision if possible.

Are open faced helmets allowed if the are snell m2000 ?

Yes you can use an open face helmet. A simple mototcycle helmet with a M95 minimum rating is all you need. The M2000 would be a better investment.

Only specific classes are required to run closed face helmets. Open wheel cars, alcohol blown etc. These will be an SA rating instead of an M rating. The SA rating has a smaller opening than an M rated motorcycle helmet. Even ProStock Bike use a close faced M rated helmet.

Just about any door car that runs in bracket racing only needs an open face M rated helmet.

Helmet ratings explained can be found on www.smf.org

A little story on helmets...

I picked up my closed faced helmet from a guy on ebay (distributor) for <100 bucks new - snell 95.

The guy that I spoke with on the phone told me that he was involved in an accident (dragstrip) where the door mirror from the other car flew threw the window, missed the window net, landed smack on his face and cracked the visor on his helmet http://web.camaross.com/bb/eek.gif. Sounds pretty far fetched, but anything can happen!

I use an open face but I wear glasses and getting a full face on over them ia a real bear! Plus... they be a bit cheaper.

Closed face is hotter, but thats all I would wear, glass and flying parts(not to mention fire) can't get to your face.
