Gear Vendors Overdrive
Gear Vendors Overdrive
Im running a TH400 right now and I have the sphon torque arm, how are you guys running the gear vendors overdrive without it hitting the torque arm because of the added length. Any help appreciated, also wheres the best price on the overdrive set up and about how much is it
I have a TH400, GV O/D and the Spohn race version TA. No interference at all. I did have the DS loop strand left off the front brace, and welded the loop to the side of the TA.
Spohn TA with custom DS loop
TA installed
This shot shows the initial fitup of the front support, to make sure it cleared the GV. Steve was kind enough to send me a "prototype" of the front support to make sure it fit correctly. Obviously the DS stand needs to be removed. The top of the "link" is about 1/3" from the clamp on the end of the GV output shaft.

I bought mine used for $1,500. I think the "new" price is around $2,500.
I am pretty sure that it is "direct drive" until you engage the O/D, and then it uses the planetary gearset for the O/D. The shift is very fast and very hard when the GV is under full load. I don't think you would lose too much in the way of power in 3rd, except for the added rotating mass (a few HP) and the dead weight (~40#) it adds to the weight of the car.
I had my car dyno'd without it, then with it, but we added a bit more spray on the O/D pull, so I can't tell you what the actual losses are. I run just under redline in the traps in 3rd gear with a 125-shot, but with the 275-shot, I'm going to have to use the GV.
