any suggestions for my next 1/4 mile run
Here's a breakdown of my first and last best 1/4 mile run...
R/T .915 60' 2.049 1/8 8.830 MPH 81.20 1/4 13.708 MPH 100.94 I have a 94 Pontiac Formula A4 with Mac mids,K&N intake,1LE elbow,Magnaflow muffler(not the cat back),Mad Z28 tune,LCA's,PHR,and Nitto 555R's. When I ran at the track, call me stupid but I did not warm up my tires and I had my rear tires at 30 psi, and another thing i noticed is that my car hit the rev limiter when it shifted to 4th, probably due to the fact that my rev limiter is set at 6500 rpm and i had the transmission perform button on( I plan to turn it off next time after I shift to 3rd). Next time i go to the track i plan on taking off front sway bar( I heard it helps, but will I risk any damage what so ever),taking out my spare tire, setting my rear tires at 16 psi, and of course heating up my tires good. Any other suggestions or is this good enough. Sorry for the long post... any tips would be appreciated |
never used those tires but 14-16 in bfg dr's
leave hard on it and I wouldn't twist it up so hi shift it at 5800 or so You probly just need some seat time in the car Good luck :edit: noticed your A4 just put it in drive and go of idle...don't shift it |
I plan on just running without the transmission perform button on, it still shifts at a decent rpm due to my tune. And i never shift manually, I always leave it on D, trans doesnt shift as fast as i do. I also never launch at idle, I launch my car at 1200 to 1400rpm, would like to go higher but my brakes suck.

yea i do the same...i try to get as close as i can to 1500rpms on my launch with my A4.....
yea u maybe can get around a 13.5 with those corrections u listed |
Well hopefully I do better, I'm really shooting for low 13's.

Also, with the correct PCM programming the shift points (based on MPH & RPM) will perform best and most consistant leaving the transmission in drive (not manually shifting). WD http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2189634 |
so just leave it in drive? or overdrive?
i always wondered...would u really need that 4th gear! |
OK, like other stated leave it in D, there is no real point shifting the 4l60e yourself, also unless you have 4.30 gears or lower then you shouldn't go anywhere near 4th in the 1/4. Plus if you did you'd be killing your times due to gearing since 4th has a .70:1 ratio...
Get that 60' down and let the computer do it's job and you should be in the low 13's... |
Excuse the way I chose my words, but just to make it clear, I never shift any of my gears on my 4L60E manually, I always leave it on D. Oh, and I have 3.23 gears.
|
so leave it on D not overdrive....k thx!
|
Your combo should never ever even come close to hitting 4th gear. If it does then something is broken. The 3-4 shift shouldn't occur until well over 120 mph. Heck I run 4.10 gears and go thru the traps at 120 in 3rd.
And the Nittos will like 18-21 psi and a big smokey burnout. |

There is absolutely no point in pushing the engine that high, with no more than headers and a CAI. You should let it shift closer to 5,600rpm. That would have it shifting to 2nd at 42mph, 3rd at 81mph, and through the traps at 4,300rpm. |
Personally....i havent even changed my shift points.......... yet ;)
|
Well sounds like im wrong about my trans shifting to fourth at about 80 mph, my bad, guess 3rd would be the right number. Thanks for the correction guys and all the tips.
