TunerCAT and DOS
Ok, I'm still green to the programming wold, mainly because I can't get my shiznad to work. My problem is I have a vaio laptop, it comes with Windows ME and I can't restart in DOS or anything because of ME and I need to go into DOS outside windows to read and flash my PCM (I'm sure most of you know that). Anyone know how to solve this problem?
Also, if and when I ever get into DOS, I have a PCMCIA card for my com port, since my vaio doesn't have com ports, just firewire and USB. MY PCMCIA card works well with Datamaster inside windows and everything. Anyone know if I will be up a technical sheet crick as to the PCMCIA card working in DOS outside windows?
BTW, I have a 97 Camaro SS with the OBDI swap. . .

Wow, that's a lot of problems! Well, I'll try to help. Go here and d/l the WIN flash reader/programmer http://www.tunercat.com/software/beta/beta.html
Then you don't have to worry about the problems of the DOS and ME. Since ME did away with all DOS support, there is no way to get to DOS outside Windows. DOS is merely emulated by ME.
Now, for you PCMCIA, you will just have to set it to be your COM port for the cable in Windows now, since you can't use DOS. It should work fine, but make sure you do a couple of reads with the flash program first so you don't get any errors. If you get errors, you'll get errors in programming, which will destroy your PCM. DON'T PROGRAM IF YOU GET ERRORS WITH READING!!!! I can't stress that enough. The WIN flash program is still beta, so all the bugs aren't quite worked out yet. The DOS program is better, but you can't use it, so your stuck with the WIN stuff. If you have some extra cash, find an old Pentium 150 laptop or something similar to do your editing that has WIN95 or 98 on it with DOS. Ebay has some for like $50.

I've downloaded that program, but everytime I goto read, I save the file I want it to read to and I get an error message saying "Selected file is not a valid calibration file." No communication between the car or the computer begins at all, do you know what this error message is about?
Hmmmm, not sure what that message is. Never seen it before and it isn't listed in the readprog file that tunercat has with its DOS files. Have you tried different names for the files? Maybe put the .bin in the filename as well? I'm really not sure on this one, has anyone else seen this before? Maybe it has to do with your PCMCIA comm port? Check that as well. I'll see if I can find something on this one.
I have the same problem, I paid for tuner cat etc and the EE file now because the DOS version of flashprog doesnt work they want us to pay another $20 for their WIN version? I tried my serial number for the flashprog/read for WIN and it said invalid serial! Anyone got a serial? I gave them enough money just to find out their software doesnt work right and that I have to pay another $20 for a working version
DOOM,
This is unrelated to the comm port working. I can use my PCMCIA card in datamaster and log files and such in that. . . This is more of the program itself. This is exactly what happens. . . I click "Read" then it ask me to to save the file. I type the file name, and right when I hit save it pops up with that message. . . So I'm lost. I've tried different file types, along with other .bin files. I keep getting the same message. I also typed ".bin" into the filename with no success either. . . I've also downloaded it again and did another clean install and I still get the same message. . . Got any ideas as to what this might be? I have no idea what they mean "calibration file"
