Torque Management

IS it necessary to remove Torque Management when I have my new TCI 3500 TC installed

Aklaim Dec 7, 2003 01:38 PM

I believe so.

MARSTAUT Dec 7, 2003 01:59 PM

Is it possible to remove it without LS1 Edit?

Aklaim Dec 7, 2003 02:01 PM

No it is not.

the1turkey Dec 7, 2003 04:28 PM

ok i guess thats another 50 bucks i have to spend

ULTIMTEORANGESS Dec 7, 2003 04:30 PM

id have it removed.major difference, firms up your shifts.

V6toZ28 Dec 7, 2003 07:58 PM

No, you do not have to have it removed. It makes a minor difference in your track times - maybe .05 - and no difference in around town driving. And it does not "firm" up your shifts ...

ULTIMTEORANGESS Dec 7, 2003 08:09 PM

how come mine shifts harder? guess im imagining it.

Drew778/94Z Dec 8, 2003 01:14 AM

You can get it remove with a Predator, talk to James@RWTD.

RS Dragster Dec 8, 2003 01:30 AM

You want it gone, because it regulates your line pressure. I know a guy from P'Cola that didn't take it off when he put a TCI 4000 in, and the computer thought it was a stock tranny slipping, so it upped the line pressure so much the thing went BOOM!

Definately get her GONE ;)

TM doesn't have anything to do with line pressure.

You weren't imagining it. You just don't understand it ... TM pulls timing from the engine. During shifts, when ASR/TCS is engaged and also from what I've been told, when ABS engages ... it does nothing to the tranny per se.

What you're describing as "firmer" shifts is the automatic equivalent of power shifting in a manual ... if you stay in the throttle during a shift it will feel "firmer".

People were putting high stall TCs in these cars for years without removing TM and without problems ... then LS1edit came out and someone decided to remove TM and picked up a little ET at the track ... so everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

So now 90% of the internet community, who has limited knowledge of what TM is or what it even does, is perpetuating the myth that TM "must" be removed if you are running a high stall TC ... even worse you'll damage your tranny if you don't ... when actually the opposite is true ...

I have 2 PCMs ... one with and one without. Other differences in the PCMs aside; I would say eliminating TM is worth about .05 or half tenth in ET ... I don't run it on the street and don't bother with it when I'm bracket racing ... 3 or 4 times a year I plug it in, when I'm doing heads up racing and making my max effort ...

boomcase Dec 9, 2003 11:04 AM

To Put it simple , It pulls out Timing when the tranny is shifting Gears.

MISOMWS6 Dec 9, 2003 08:06 PM

Also I see you have a '98 so its not as bad as the '01 and '02 models. TM has affected my car only like 3 times (not shure why no TC or big mods) but it seems on a hard launch it would pull good for a few seconds then just fall flat for a second and pick back up?? I only assume this is TM never checked it with edit or any other program
