Re: LT1Edit mailing list....

This is because a lot of messages at one point in time were not LT1 Edit (computer related) specific.

Re: LT1Edit mailing list....

I agree in principle with the above reply. Actually, if one goes back to the days when 'Topica' was the site host, there was even discussion (subject matter) then, of a 'list czar' for the edit list. Discipline is not a popular human trait apparently.

Were? Virtually zilch has changed since moderation took affect. A large majority of the posting STILL relates to 'off topic' material. There has even been the occassional 'for sale' posting witnessed. My estimate is that of 60-75% of the posting does not belong there. Many of the topics discussed, should be, and actually ARE subjects of general engine discussion on forums such as this one.

The person with the moderating duties, is also the authoritive figure responsible for the hosting/maintenance of the site. On the surface, the choice for delegation of moderator duties, could be considered a good one. For his considerable investment of time and effort, the person unfortunately, either lacks the knowledge, experience, or intestinal fortitude to cull non pcm editing related posts.

Attempts in the past, made by a few individuals, to discourage 'off topic' posting with subtle but respectful 'hints', for the most part, have been met with arrogance, harassment, abuse, and even sarcasm from the authoritive figure mentioned above. Whatever the majority desire, I guess. Not attempting to diminish or downplay the efforts of a few knowledgeable/experienced list members (bless their souls), that continue to give unselfishly, of their time and editing knowledge, the off topic posting, and the general support thereof, AFAIC, is a reason for more of the original knowledgeable/experienced contributing members no longer showing interest, and the lack of incubation of larger numbers of knowledgeable replacements.

Maybe the site is a victim of politics. Hold a hard line on relevant posting, and risk the site dying from a lack of 'traffic' or interest. Springtime aerification/dethatching may leave the lawn looking thin and weak, but by midsummer, it's healthier turf overall. Yes, this was a rant.
