Installed Granatelli 85mm MAF. Need to program PCM??

Hey all,

I just bought and installed an 85mm Granatelli MAF. I don't know if I'm just being paranoid, but it feels like it's less responsive than the stock 75mm unit. In my previous experience, I have had to get the PCM programmed with new MAF tables. Is there something special about the Granatelli where it plays with the data sent to the PCM, tricking it to think there is a stock PCM when there's really a Granatelli?
Or, do I actually need a new program, and if so, will the HPP do it??

Thanks guys!!!

I installed mine and my car ran .2 faster 1/4 mile and 2mph faster then my previous best times. I never changed anything in the computer. I do have an LT1 not an LS1 tho. I'd think you really shouldn't need to change anything.

Thumbs up

Thanks Johnny O. I think I'm just paying too close attention and getting overly critical. As a safe measure, I'm going to disconnect the battery for at least an hour (Granatelli said 45mins) and see what happens.

Thanks again !!!

I woiuld assume the only thing that will change is the extra air until you change the PCM. I had the 85 put in as well and along with the lid at the same time so I can't be too partial. However in trying to determine another problem I once changed from the 85 back to stock to see if that would help, and I did notice a louder grunt with the 85 than the stock, if that helps.

So I need to change the PCM then???

I would just assume that the PCM would need new MAF tables since it's a larger and different MAF. I guess Ford is a lot different then?? But oh well. I paid for it and it's staying in the car no matter what. Thanks for you input, I appreciate it!

It has been my understanding any tiime a mod is done that involves air/fuel changes then the computer should be told in order to take full advantage of the mod. I might want to correct that somewhat. I don't think cat-backs or things like that, but engine components and perhaps o2 sensors mods. But, just like you said, it's in, it's staying in, which is exactly what I would do as well.

I've never seen a Granatelli maf calibration map, for that very reason i used the Granatelli ends with a stock maf.

I would not expect any gains from such a mod.. take your screen out and cut the bar out, good enough.

Only thing your seeing is less restricted airflow and i doubt thats making up .2 on your 1/4.

If your car is stock it can't hurt but with forced induction i would stay with a the stock maf.. atleast till your happy then try it.
