Blocking off EGR & A.I.R. Injections a problem...

I have the plates to block off both the EGR and A.I.R. pipes on my headers but I've heard that some people have a problem with the computer throwing a code afterwards. Is this something I should be worried about or something I can remedy easily if there's a problem OR will there not even be a problem? Thanks a lot!

Yes, your check engine light will come on if the EGR valve is unplugged, and/or if the AIR pump is unplugged. You would need to get these codes disabled in the programming.

Also, there are timing tables that are used for adjusting spark advance when EGR is on. A PCM tuner that is disabling EGR for you would zero these tables out if the EGR valve has been deleted.

So basically I'd have to go get my car tuned again by someone like Thunder Racing or would a normal shop have a scanner or something that could turn them off?

Yes, you'd have to have the PCM reprogrammed. If you just want those codes turned off, I could send you a handheld programmer for $50 + shipping that would do it (then you send it back when you're done). Shoot me a mail at vince@trifectaperformance.com if you're interested and I'll give you the details.

^ wow.. I didn't know thee was timing issues w/ the EGR system.

This answered a couple of my questions.. I deleted my AIR and EGR, added an LS6 intake and deleted my cats and my car is running PIG rich now. Getting at best 15mpg around town babying it.. I really need a tune! All my vacuum lines are connected. No intake leaks. It runs great just WAY rich..

There is a table in the PCM that adds timing advance during EGR because the introduction of exhaust gases while the EGR valve is open slows down the combustion so the combustion must be started earlier.

Question

VinceTrifecta:
Not to hijack "LPE_wannabe"'s thread but his sig is for a 1998 (OBD-II) car ... is there a similar EGR advance table in the 1995 (OBD-I) ECU?

Yes, there is.

For 94-95 cars, the table is called "EGR Spark Advance Correction vs. Vacuum vs. RPM" in Tunercat.

That table is also in HP Tuners for LS1 cars. I recently deleted the EGR thru the program but didn't do anything else as far as tuning, people on HP Tuners said once you disable the EGR all the spark advance, etc... git all goes away with it. After several scans I see that my LT's are int he red, +22. Not sure what to do, I guess i'll just play around with the table or zero out the EGR table.
