95 z m6 ob1 to ob2 convert?

Hey guy im sure somewhere that has been covered but here it is.

I have an ob1 pcm with an ob2 connector car. The question is can i just swap out the ob1 pcm to a ob2? Or is there more to it then that.

The more logical solution would be to replace the 95's 16-pin OBD-2 style ALDL connector with a 12-pin OBD-1 connector. Installing an OBD-2 PCM in a 95 would require a crank position sensor, 2 after cat O2 sensors, an EVAP vacuum detection switch, a 96/97 knock sensor, and/ or programming all those devices out of the OBD-2 PCM. Now you have a PCM that is more difficult to program and less accomodating to engine modifications.

Well with that, ill say with what i have. Isn't the ALDL spidered into the dash harness?

There is no difference in the wiring. Just the connector is different. Check Shoebox's site for the wiring diagram.

So Injuneer, if one were to swap the OBD connector and drop in a 96-97 LT1 motor/harness along with exhaust and PCM, that's basically all it takes to create an OBD-II car? Just clarifying.

My question is why you would want to swap the OBD type at all?

You only have to swap the computer to change the OBD type. Any year LT1 will work with any year computer. If you want it all to function as it came stock, you will have to add/delete or change the necessary accompanying devices. Most people swap from OBD-II to I for less costly tuning. Some of those people live in areas where they must have their car smog checked. They swap back and forth from I (94-95) to II (96-97) computers without any other modifications (aside from and internal mod in one of the computers to keep the knock sensor matched).

If you are leaning toward swapping in a 96-97 LT1, it will work with what you have (with understand of a few minor things) or you can swap in the OBD-II PCM. The DLC will stay the same.
