Weldwheel weight questions and opinions..??
Weld draglites...how narrow should I go if I still drive car on the street...15 by 4 or 15 by 5 or 15 by 6 be a better choice..I assume largest rim that fits back is 15 by 8 with 4.5 offset..??? How bad do these cars handle with the narrower front wheels..???? Car might see track two or three times a year but mostly will be street driven. Also looking at used set of welds..not bad shape..can they be refinished or polished up for minor scratches..???
If the car will be driven very often or in inclimate weather don't even think about skinnies. You won't pick up that much more time over weld wheels with 60 series tires anyway. Skinnies are for when every 1/10 sec counts, and for a street car I'd rather pick up 1/10 elsewhere and maintain my handling. Skinnies and any bias-ply tires tend to follow grooves in the road. Stick with a good set of 70, 60 , or 50 series radials.
Now if the street duties are only weekend cruising, thats a different story.
You could always run regular sized wheels and find a cheap used skinny set up for racing.
The widest I've seen on 2nd gens (w/out tubbing) are 8". For the rear tire size you can go up to a 275/60/15 if backspaced right.
