Muncie 4 speed in a 67 camaro

I have a 67 camaro with a powerglide.. A friend has a nice muncie in great shape, with bell housing and clutch. how hard is it to put muncie in??? I see there is a kit in the different classic car parts places... I also will need the shifter and I guess A different fly wheel... I understand the floor console hole is already the size for either auto or manual.

any ideas, suggestions?? thanks

Robert

Pilot bearing, all the clutch linkage, and pedals. Check E-bay and places like Year One and NDP have all this stuff. Trans cross member may need to be replaced, drive shaft length.

I have had several people that I know trying to convince me not to go the muncie route..... but a 700r4 or turo 350... its it that difficult to put this muncie in?? also a couple saying something about welding???? I didnt think so,..

Been many many years since I've had a first gen. They may be refering to cutting the hole in the tunnel for the shift lingage. And adding sheet metal to cover the hole and for the mounting of the shifter boot. Keep searching for someone whos actually done this convertion would be a lot more help.

I just went from a 327ci/TH350 to a 408ci 500hp stroker/TKO600. Best thing about the new set up by far is the far more enjoyment i get from having a manual....

do the swap, its easy.

Yup it's easy, and well worth it.

Flywheel
Clutch/Pressure plate
Bellhousing
Transmission
Shifter
ZBar
Brake/Clutch pedal
linkage

Your existing drive shaft will bolt right up. You will need to cut out a hole for the shifter. There's a template available on camaros.net.

not sure if your crank is drilled for a pilot bearing or not but that could be a deal breaker

It's not that difficult at all once you have all the parts necessary to perform the conversion. My 67 RS came with a 327 & powerglide, subsequently replaced by a 350/turbo 350, and my friend and I are rebuilding her with a Muncie behind the ZL1 big block. I would reccomend, however, that you ask yourself how you are going to drive the car, and whether you want to install an automatic rather than a Muncie. For what it's worth.
