miss at 2800

miss at 2800

i got another 79 camaro a month ago and got on the road and it have a miss and a loss of power at anything above 2800, it has a fresh mild 355, supercoil, stock hei, delco plugs, 045 gap, i dont know what else to look for, i have a new roter cap in it, i just want to be able to floor it without popping and snapping, thanks

Might be a fuel problem, either a plugged filter, kinked line, collapsed pickup sock in the tank, or a weak pump. I've also seen on Holleys where the rear float was set way low and it caused a similar problem. Also a piece of trash plugging up a main jet (primary or secondary) can make for rough running above 2,000 rpm.

Does it do it when you rev it in park/neutral or only in gear? If in gear (under load), it tends to say it's a fuel problem. If it does it in neutral too, then it points to ignition.

it dosent do it at idle, i guess i may need a new carb, more like a 650 now it has a 750

No need to toss the carb, rebuild it if it is the problem. But check the other possibilities first.

how old are the plug wires if there is to much resistance in them they will cause a problem under load or look at modual in destributer and see if the 2 wires that conect to the modual arent damadged

im getting a new set of wires today and getting my supercoil checked because its pretty old, i hope that solves the problem, thanks
