head question
head question
My buddys putting together a shortblock 350, bored 60 over, he is not sure what heads to get yet, need some advice.
Should he get aluminum or cast, and also if you have any favorites that are under a $1000, let me know. Thanks.

Most bang for the buck, IMO, are Vortec cast iron heads.
You can buy new from GM, P/N 12558060 completely assembled for about $260/each from a GMPP dealer, or you can buy bare heads for about $220 per each or you can get a set from a junkyard, oops, recycling yard, and touch them up.
They outflow much of the stuff on the market costing lots more, and will support upwards of 400 hp on a 350.
Stock they are limited to about .475 valve lift, but larger springs can be installed if you do a little machine work.
Even with the raised port style Vortec manifold needed, you should get change back from his $1000.

I'm considering using the iron 180 heads from these guys:
http://www.procylinderheads.com/
Flow numbers on their site look excellent. This place has them for $675 comlete.
http://enginekits.com/
Summit wants 800 for them. Need no special intake.
