383 Mopar/383 Chevy Shootout - Your guys thoughts?

Dwayne (aka Fast68Plymouth) in the thread has posed the question to the guys over at Moparts.com, just curious as to what you guys might have to say on it?
Kinda curious myself.

Hey,
I've seen alot of Chevys with no more than 350ci (or 355) motors out-run 383 Mopars. And I can't really remember seeing it the other way around, partly because the Mopars were big heavy Road Runners, etc. I still think the the Chevy 383 would be a better direction. Heck, I think I'd rather have a 340 than a 383 anyway.
Just my meager 2 cents worth!

looking at the engine dimensions, I'd say the mopar has an advantage with the larger bore - you can fit bigger valves, and more airflow...
Of course, this is the real world, and you must also consider that SBC heads probably have more hours of research put into them than most other brands combined!
Now, are we allowed to put some nice GM-tech fast-burn heads on that SBC? That'll make power for sure.

I remember seeing an article a couple years back with a small cube shoot out NA and one of the faster cars there was a 94 f-bod with a 360 in it running mid 9's@145+. There was not one chevy in the group, just a bunch of Fords and a lone Mopar.

My friend has a 600hp NA 350, and runs 10's in his 67 Camaro with a 100 shot.
The engine is fully built, but still that isn't bad at all. Put it in a lighter car, and 9's would be no trouble at all.
And a well build Chevy 383 can be very potent. Esp an LT1 383. Supercharged they can make above 1000hp!
The Mopar 383 can probably also be built up well, but to me the Chevy 383 is a race motor, where the Mopar is a little more stock.
I talked to someone with a RoadRunner 383, and he said he ran high 13's stock...so they certainly aren't a bad engine!
