Electric Fuel Pump?
Electric Fuel Pump?
If you've read my previous posts, you've undoubtedly noticed that I have my 327 yanked out of my '67 right now. I figure that while I have it out and on a stand, I might as well upgrade/replace what I can. I was thinking about replacing the stock mechanical fuel pump with an electric pump. Is this worth it and a good idea? If so, what kind of fuel pump should I get? I'm running an Edelbrock Performer 600cfm carb right now, but I might strap on a 750cfm and try to get my 327 revving high. Thanks!
I ran a 750cfm Q-jet & Performer on my 68 RS with a 327 and never had anything other than an OEM replacement mechanical fuel pump.
While I had the engine out I did do a few minor tweaks...
New US Radiators Desert Cooler (I think that was the brand).
Weiand Aluminum Water Pump
Modified the motor mounts. (Heck all 1st gen Camaro owners know what a PITA they can be. I bent the "ears" up so that I only needed to pull the single long through-bolts on each side, then remove the two tranny mount bolts if I ever had to pull the engine/transmission together again. It also made the install a lot easier. I also added quick connect/disconnects to some of the wiring. If I had to, I could've pulled the motor in less than 20 minutes after that... never did though.
)
Replaced power steering hoses
Replaced distributor and coil
That's about all I can remember right now.

I ran a Holley blue pump, the thing went out on me so I replaced it with another. That went out on me pretty quick so I got a Mallory mechanical. I've had it since '93. On a car that sees regular street duty, I'd stick with a good aftermarket mechanical pump. The blue pump is pretty noisey too.
BTW, I ran high 12's low 13's with that mechanical pump and am still using it on my mild engine.
