73 firebird engine swap.

HI my uncle has a 73 firebird with a 350 olds motor with a turbo 350. He wants to know if the trans will work with a pontiac 400. Because the starter is on the left side on the 350 olds and on the new 400 motor he has the starter is on the right side.

Pontiac and Olds transmissions have the same pattern, known as the BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac), and they are interchangeable, except for stuff like the very early 389s that had the starter bolted to the bellhousing like the early SBCs.

get a 200R4--they have a BOP pattern too (well maybe not the ones the Monte Carlo SS used...)

With the price of gas--this should pay for itself (low cruising rpms) and be faster too.

Yah it'll swap right over, as stated the 200R4 is the same size and same bell housing. It is however, weak.. and you'll kill it with a good 400.

Without a doubt. But I don't think he's going that way anyways... the Buick guys have done wonders with the 200R4.
I don't mind the TH350 behind the 400 in my 2nd gen. It works, gets the job done....
