67 Camaro engine questions...

Rebuilding a 67 Camaro for a buddy that the previous owners really messed it up... by the tags, it originally came with a v-6.. but when my buddy bought it.. he was told it has a 454 engine with a th350 trans... well.. jsut had them both rebuilt.. the engine is a 402 and the trans is a 400.

Anyway... since we can't go by what hack jobs were done.. we want to replace the motor mounts, starter (it made some funny noises at start up sometimes), possibly alternator, and water pump.

From running the few numbers that were left, we believe it is a 402 from 72. Are all the big block motor mounts the same? What part number would we need? Same thing for the starter/alternator.

Thanks.

I would buy what originally came on a 396 Camaro. All of those parts should be compatible with what is currently in there now. Your local auto parts store should have these parts on the shelf.

67 Never came with a V-6. It came with a Straight-6, a 283, 302, 327, or a 350 small block V-8 and later the same year it started to use the 396 big block V-8. If you have the Big Block mounts, you can install a crate 454, but if you intend to drive it at all, You will have greater driveability with a Small block. Every thing you need from the frame mounts to some really powerful small blocks can be had at a bargain.
By the way the 396 and the 402 big block is the same thing.
