2nd gen 12 bolt

How much would a 2nd gen 12 bolt, w/4.11 gears and spider gears welded together (thank the idiot that owned it before me) be worth??? I'm pretty sure it is a posi, so not sure why the gears got welded. It ran on my car fine until I got my 8.5" posi rear with disk break set up, and non-welded spider gears. :D

I'm debating on selling, I doubt I'd use it in this car again. I like the current 10bolt.

Well, 70's were the only 2nd gen Camaros to get the 12 bolt.

Might be worth something to someone restoring a 70.

Other than that, its worth maybe $300 or so in the condition you stated....

Thanks for the response. That would still be $300 I could put toward something else instead of a rearend I'll probably never use that just sits there. lol

Well, if you even get stock internals to go with those 4.11's....and replace it yourself or get a shop to do it.

There's a code on it that will help tell you what it came on & the original gear ratio.

Other than that, its stronger than the 10 bolt....

Didn't the '71's get the 12 bolt also? I thought the changeover for the 8.5" 10 bolt was 1972.

Because the 8.5" is stronger than the old 8.2", GM didnt see the need anymore to offer the 12 bolt, especially with no more big blocks in the Camaro.

Right below the Z-28 info, at the 2nd dot:

Only year 12 bolt rearend installed in performance 2nd gens
There MIGHT HAVE been a few carry over, since we're finding out that GM would do a few weird things here & there.....no positive way other than maybe it was special ordered....by someone with 'pull' ;)
