1981 z28 air induction
How does the air induction on the hood work? I bought a 1981 camaro z28 and the air induction does not work. I have 2 wires hanging down one orange and one black. Where do the wires go? The shop manual doesn't have it in it. Any leads would help.

cowl hood
the orange wire goes to a throttle switch on the carb, and the black goes to ground.if you mare missing this switch you can use one that is supposed to be used to accuate nitrous at w.o.t.(wide open throttle)you can easily modify this switch to open at 3/4 throttle.look in the nitrous section of summits catalog.

where does the switch go on the carb?

will part #NOS-15640 work? Thanks for your help.

On my car, the wires go to a switch under the gas pedal - when it's floored, you hit the switch.
Maybe it's different between 80 and 81? |
You are right, Eric. The air induction door is activated by a solenoid, which gets its signal from a switch on the gas pedal arm. When you floor it, the switch grounds and the solenoid opens the air induction door. Its the same for both 1980 and '81. I've had 2 1980 Z/28's and they both had the same system as my buddy's 1981 Z/28 (which he bought brand new in 1981 and still owns).

So where do the wires go to on the soleniod? Can you still buy these soleniods? and if so where? Will the nitrous switch work? thanks for the info!

The solenoid is around $50 or so from The Paddock.

If the air induction is not working, check to make sure it's not just the switch. On my car, the switch was faulty, and a new one was only about $15 CDN.
