1981- pennsylvania emissions

i bought a 1981 camaro with a 350 last spring...the engine was stripped down for racing. i want to get it street legal and have done everything needed except for getting the emmisions stuff for under the hood ( air pump...etc). i have been told by some that i don't need it and by others that i do and it seems like no matter who i ask i keep getting contradicting answers or i can't get straight answers at all. can anyone help me with what exactly i need for the emissions or tell me where i can go to find out? i have heard there is a book you can find it in by looking up the vin#. honestly i am just getting tired of the run around and just want some straight answers. thanks for checking this out.

A lot of 3rd gen owners take all the AIR stuff off of theirs. I have emissions in my particular county here in TN and my AIR pump hasn't worked for years. Still passes just fine. It depends on how emissions is done where you are though. If they just do the sniffers and don't actually inspect it then you should be fine, as the removal of the AIR pump will not make you fail a sniffer test. If there is a visual inspection you might still get away with it as long as you have it looking like it was naturally like that. If it don't look natural then you won't pass a visual. But most ppl at those inspection stations aren't gonna know the difference by looking at it when it comes to the AIR pump.
