replacing car audio

Dear all,

I've just bought a 99' Z28 Camaro...what a pleasure !
only problem I have today come from the audio system which seems to be too old (front speakers are crackling...) so first I changed my front speakers (3Ways pioneer speakers) but ,nothing has changed !

So I would need your help to find the good car audio system to change (not the speakers) the existing one, I know that the size is not usual but may be you could suggest some existing systems which fit correctly.

another concern because I'm living in France and would have some problem to find US equipments....

Many thanks for your help !
Regards,
Tiamat.

Re: replacing car audio

I can't say what is causing the Crackling sounds

Do you have the 4 speaker sytem or the 6 speaker?

My experience is that installing aftermarket speakers will improve sound just as much as an Aftermarket head Unit, If you really want a good sounding stereo, go ahead and replace the other speakers too,

And If your going to replace the head unit and you want the best sound quality, go ahead and get an aftermarket unit rather than a factory unit because aftermarket sounds much better.

you can fit just about any 1 Din unit in the dash using an adapter and wiring harness adapter.

Hi Evolution223,

thanks a lot for your reply.
I have a 6 speaker system, and may be you're right may be I'll need to change also the other 4 rear speakers...

btw which stereo system do you suggest me ? (especially the head unit due to its unusual size).

Thanks,
Tiamat.

The head unit is a 1.5 din size. Using an adapter kit, and wiring harness, a 1 din size will work. You'll also need an antenna adapter.

About the crackling sound you described, I dont know what is causing that, but be aware since you have the 6 speaker Monsoon stereo that there is also a factory ampifier installed under the rear right panel in the hatch somewhere around the spare tire. I dont know if it is possible that it may be bad.

But for head units, about all you can get to fit is a standard 1 Din unit, so just pick out whatever you like.

thanks a lot for the advice,

I'll check for the amplifier I have and also for a 1.5 to 1 DIN adapter.
