Remote Start

Is remote start worth it to install on a Camaro or should I just get a great security system without the remote start? I'm looking at the Clifford Matrix RSX 3.5 w/ remote start but I could just get a different system in the Matrix line without remote start.

You don't necessarily disable VATS. You just place a resistor in the wiring of the remote start equal to that of the chip in your key. If you tried starting it with the wrong key it would not start.

Oh ok thanks man. My only other question is how does remote start actually work. Like what prevents someone from just stealing the car while it is remote started if I dont get there in time or if I accidentally start the car. If anyone could help that would be great.

when you install remote start, you hook a wire to the brake switch and to a pin switch under the hood, if the hood is opened while the car is remote started it shuts off the car, if someone gets in the car and the brake is pressed before the key is turned to the "ON" position it shuts down the car.

Well you need the key in the ignition turned to the on position to unlock the steering wheel, and since it has a VATS system even if they did manage to unlock the wheel once they press the brake to put the car in gear the remote start will shut down and turn the car off, and since the key is not in the ignition to send the VATS system the required resistance it wont stay running.

*If the brake is pressed at anytime or the hood is opened anytime while the car is remotely started and the key is not in the ignition the car will shut off.

set your DMM to Ohm's and touch each side of the resistor in the key with the probes.

Thanks so much for your help man. I'll be sure to update when I get the system installed with a review.
