as a near professional solder guy, i say you can. just make sure to put shrink wrap or electrical tape around it.

Personally I wouldn't reccomend it. If you ever want to change the speaker out you have to unsolder it then. Not to mention soldering can and typically does weaken the strength of the connector on the speaker. I always use connectors, but that's MHO.

click on that to see where i mounted my tweets in front and rear. the crossovers i decided to mount on the plastic panels under the dash. keeps them away from moisture but close to the speakers, in the rear crossovers are mounted behind the plastic panels on the wall.

I would never solder directly to a speaker.
Get some end connectors and solder them to the wire.
You also want to mount the tweeters as close to the speaker as possible. I have mine mounted over the center of the speaker.
Almost like a coax but it has much better sound.

yeah so all is going well now...the weird thing that i noticed though is that. I took my kickpanels off and theres like a little basket that my crossover fits perfectly into. is that there normally or did the person before me put it in before
There is no problem with soldering directly to the speaker, it provides the best possible connection.
If you're not very good at soldering I wouldn't do it though. If you are slow and heat the terminal up too much you can damage the speaker. It all depends on how good you are at soldering.
