Killing Battery
 

My Auto Mechanic Teacher said that to run a good system you'll need a better alternator because if you dont it will keep killing your battery. Which it has, mines died 3 times so far. Is he right? I dont understand how some of you people run 2 amps also, did you upgrade your alternator on your car, or is it just that something is wired wrong and thats the reason it kills my battery. Thanks.

Well, i have two amps, 1 power my door and rear quarter speakers, 50x4, and 1 powering the 2 12" subs, 400x2. And this system was makin my battery meter dance pretty good, but recently i added a 1.2F capacitor and now the needle barely moves. So i would invest in a cap first. But now i'm getting my battery level a little low at night when headlights are on and what not, so i gotta keep stereo down. But i would start with a cap and then see how you do. Plus the cap will get your system to sound better as well.

A capacitor will help your power needs but not thoroughly.
If you have amp(s) that are unloading a lot of power a bigger alt. would be a good choose. Assuming all you wires are big enough to hold the current in your electrical system. I really don't know why your battery is dying unless you run your system with the car off??

If the sound system is constantly drawing more current than the alt can deliver, the battery will try to make up the difference. NOT good. This can lead to the battery crapping out prematurely. The only thing that will fix this is a high output alt.

My amp is only Fosgate 200W Mono though, maybe it was cause I had a blown fuse hooked up to my wiring that lead to the amp.

A blown fuse cannot kill a battery. If the fuse is blown then there is no current being drawn so there is no drain on the battery.
