gas gauge

has anyone figured out a fix to the ridiculous fuel gauges on fbodies? both my 89 camaro and my 93 z28 have both had inaccurate gauges. i know it's caused by an awkward tank shape and the floatation device that reads the gas level, but is there any way to fix it? i've noticed on a couple of my friends LS1s, it doesn't do this, and on a lot of the other ls1's, it still does it, likewise on a bunch of lt1's i know... thanks...

GM fixed the problem in the late 90s i think. something like 99 or maybe 2000. i know the early LS1a still had the problem and all LT1s did it. i was always cautious to keep my tank above 1/4 tank, all tho the few times i was freaking out my gauge was actually close to the empty mark and i was still fine, so from personal expeience the gauge in my LT1 wasnt too terrible. but ya just watch out. you will be on a full tank for a whole week then before you know it below 1/4.hehe

probaly no real fix, my 95 lt1 is empty at 1/8 th of a tank, found that out the hard way a few times !!!

After running out of gas twice right after getting mine,I took the dash apart filled it up and took the needle of the gas gauge and carried a gallon gas jug with me for a week.Drove it till it ran out again then put the gallon of gas in and put the needle back on the gauge right on the empty mark. Now when it hits the empty mark I know I still have a gallon in there.

that's genius. I've never thought of that. I am always barely rolling into the gas station with the car knocking. :D I guess it's the gas needle, or my sense of being to dumb to get gas:nuts:

yeah, first night i had my car, still thought i had an 1/8th tank left, nope, ran out of gas. that didn't put an ominous cloud over my car's reliability almost immediately

how did they fix the problem on the LS1's? I would like to know... I just wish I had a gas gauge that had an actual accurate reading. I know I DONT have half a tank of gas when I just put $5 in.. gimme a break.. you wouldn't believe how many times i curse at the gas gauge as I make a right turn and it goes to empty or make a left turn and it goes to 3/4 or full on $5 of gas haha.. just frustrating..
