To Dynamat Or Not to Dynamat....
OK guys I have been considering covering the entire inside of my trans am with some dynamat or some other brand name off e-bay style sound deadener. I was wondering if this would really help with some of the noises and squeks this car makes? Also would it help quiet out my 3-inch exhaust and improve the quality sound of my stereo? Just don't want to spend the money on something thats not really worth it.

In my personal opinion it's a waste of time and money. It costs WAY TOO MUCH for what little benefit it provides.

Re: To Dynamat Or Not to Dynamat....
unless you specifically buy only dynamat or dynamat extreme, it should not be too expensive to do an entire car. just dynamatting my brothers trunk made a pretty noticeable change in the road noise coming from the rear of the car. it wont improve the sound of your radio, but it will allow you to actually hear it.
i would not be concerned about the expense of the project, but rather the wisdom of adding 100-150 pounds of sound deadening material to a "fast" car :P |

i know some drivers would give arms, legs, etc, to be able to toss another 100 pounds :P
but to each his own, i'd do it in a second if i had some boom. |
Re: To Dynamat Or Not to Dynamat....
I stripped out my interior and used rubberized spray coating (6$) a can. Coated exactly what 94'_Z28 did and also coated the back of ALL my panels. I stripped off the pad from the old carpet and laid it down where it goes and then put the new carpet&pad down on top of all that. It makes a significant difference...Not to worried about going that fast, but it makes your car 3x tighter. I have a 93 with no speaks, no rattles, nadda! As a side benefit, it also keeps your car cooler in the summer and the A/C doesnt work as hard and I imagine it will do the reverse in the winter.
I got the spray rubberized coating (fenderwell undercoating) idea from a big stereo shop. That is what they do for some customers not wanting the big expense of dynamat. But they charge them more than $6 a can :( |
Re: To Dynamat Or Not to Dynamat....
About how many cans do you think it would take to do an entire interior?
|
Re: To Dynamat Or Not to Dynamat....
6 cans just for floor/sail panel area/trunk/
2 cans for backside of interior panels |
Re: To Dynamat Or Not to Dynamat....
Yep you could do undercoating as well. Of couse you won't get as good of a result as Dynamat, Second Skin, or other good sound deadeners, but for $3 a can it's worth doing.
