Cap question

I picked up a 1 farad EFX Cap a while back and in the wiring instructions it also gives you an alternate wiring diagram for people that want to use a cap as a backup battery of sorts?

Has anyone tried this?

Is it worth getting another cap to work as a back up battery as well as using one cap for your stereo?

I paid $140cdn ( $87 u.s.)

what do you want to use it as a backup for? I wouldn't use a 1 farad cap for anything more than supplying power to a current hungry amp.

Howbout a Batcap? It's claimed to be a battery and cap at the same time. You can get em for about $140 on Ebay.

I don't need a backup battery guys.

I was just wondering WHY would they give you a wiring diagram to use the cap as a backup battery??

I'm not sure. A cap is there just to give power to the amp at a faster rate. It juices up and then unloads, way faster than a battery can.

It is not meant to be a backup battery. They probably put it there if someone wanted to use a cap to steady the voltage of their entire car instead of just their amps. (For instance, to lighten the load of a accessory coming on that has a high initial current draw like a fan.) But that is just a guess.

Theoretically, the cap should have the same effect on all components of the car regardless of placement. But it doesn’t quite work that way.
