well me and a buddy of mine hooked up a whole new system in my car, newheadunit speakers, and amp. we finished running all the wires and hooking it all up and tried turning it on and got no sound whatsoever. the head unit turns on and plays the CD's and the amp has the power light trun on and the overheat light turn on but osund comes out not even crackling or anything. any ideas?

 

how did you wire the speakers? did you use the factory wires or use new ones? Also, is the amp going into protection mode or overheat? I don't see why the amp would go into thermal protection if you are just turning the amp on. Also, check the RCA's

 

no i used all new 16 gauge speaker wire. its going into overheat for some reason when it comes on. the green LED for the power comes on then the red overheat light comes on. to me everything looks hooked up correctly, i just dont udnerstand.

 

if it's going to overheat once the amp turns on, sounds like there might be a problem with the amp. If you have another amp, test and see but from the sound of things, it might be the amp

 

just a guess.....
but make sure the power connection wire comeing off the deck is the right one for the amp. (its should be blue with a white line)

other then that
1- you said the sound comes out is that after the light comes on???
2- Also how are your speakers hooked up, is it correct???
3- are you hooked thru rca (passive) or by speaker leads (amplified) from the player to the amp??

 

That's my guess. I bet it features overload protection, but just uses the overtemp light. Try wiring your subs in series for starters. If you get sound, your wired impedance is lower then the required impedance of the amp.

 

i was thinking subs 1st too but he didnt metion subs anywere. so yah but still maybe hes running the speakers or whatever it is on 2oms intead of 4oms or has the amp switches wrong?? your gain level isnt maxed is it??

 

that's a good point about the overload protection, just trying hooking up one set of speaker first and see what happens.
