Buying new speakers off E-bay? Problems?

I've consistently found that any speaker model number that I punch into ebay is (factoring in shipping).. about 40% cheaper than the box stores or crutchfield.

Are there any problems with the speakers that these ebay vendors are selling? Just curious as I don't want to buy crap!

Just looking into replacing my monsoon garbage.

Nothing wrong with it, they are genuine (except Focal Utopia Be ). Check caraudio.com for notoriously bad ebay audio supersellers.

I've bought most components of my system off of ebay and saved lots of $$. Just realize that you don't have the warranty (other than the factory of course) that stores like best buy often offer. However, most of the time you can buy two speakers for what one would normally cost at a retailer. Also beware of used equipment as there might be a good reason the seller is trying to get rid of it. Good luck!

Also check for the word "Re-manufactured". I'm not a fan of purchasing items that are, but if you don't mind go for it.

bought a pair of 6 1/2's and a pair of 6x9's for my truck 2 years ago, they've been tested quite a bit , no problems, just stick to name brands. mine are pioneer and pyle, no complaints.

i got the polk db6501 setup off ebay brand new for $109 shipped I think... and they are perfect, work great, no damage, etc... which i think was quite a savings over the crutchfield price.

I buy lots of remanufactured/refurbished stuff. Hasn't been a problem yet. I have a refurb HDTV that I got for half of what I would have paid anywhere else at the time, and it's lasted almost five years so far and still working perfectly. My refurb HP inkjet was ~60% of the price of a new one, and it lasted ten years and served me perfectly the whole time. The magenta ink just stopped working -- other than that, it still worked fine when I tossed it.

I haven't bought any refurb car audio stuff -- can't comment specifically on that. I have bought lots of stuff (speakers, amps, etc) from eBay, and had generally good luck, except for this:

It was a relatively unique situation, and it worked out in the end, but overall it was pretty crappy.
