Bose>Aftermarket HU adapter info plz

I have a '95 10spkr Bose system in my car and the head unit is starting to take a dump.

My choices seem slim: replace everything, gamble on a used factory hu and/or changer, or buy an aftermarket HU + a ~$50 adapter. I think PAC and RockfordFosgate make them?

By adjusting the line-level screws on the adapter, it's supposed to make aftermarket headunits compatible with factory premium systems. Has anyone used one of these and how is the sound quality? I've heard VERY mixed results and would like to know.

Thanks much,
Brian

i had one of those converter things and it sucked. there was always an audible hiss, it drove me crazy. i eventually ditched it and rewired four 3 ways into my car and just left the sub from the bose system unhooked in the back. sounds better just less bass response now, but overall i would never use that thing again. but if you want one ill sell mine, i think i still have it.

Scrap the Bose, to replace its all or nothing. I say go to www.techronics.com and get new stuff. its a whole lot cheaper there!

Turns out a '95 10spkr firebird is wired different than a '95 5spkr bose camaro. 8 spkrs driven by the headunit, and the 2 sailpanel subs by their own amp. Purchased an Alpine hu and will be installing this weekend - hope it works. Thanks, perhaps a whole system later in the future.
