94 w/ Bose. Aftermarket HU?

Got the 94 camaro w/ Bose. I am just waiting on selling my old alpine speakers so I can buy the right size ones for my car, but in the mean time I want to hook up my alpine head unit. Is this possible with the bose system or do I need to wait and replace everything?

It's possible but you may need an adapter in order to fit the smaller Alpine head unit in the stock area. Also you will need an adapeter for the wiring that way you don't have a messy cut, strip, and tape set up.

I was refering to any special stuff that the Bose system would use. Not just the obvious stuff. I pretty sure I figured out that I should probably just wait till I get speakers. I havn't heard anything good about the $50 adapter that is needed. Thanks.

Re: 94 w/ Bose. Aftermarket HU?

What $50 adapter??? The adapter that hold the head unit in the stock place is like $10 at the swap meet and the adapter for the wiring is $7 at the swap meet. Am I missing something when it comes to this $50 adapter???

The Bose system as far as I know, and as far as it was in my Camaro, did not really use anything special. In the connections to the rear of the stock head unit, I remember seeing only cables that connect to 4 speakers. In my car I only had a total of three. One in each door, and one in the rear below the hatch. I did not have the rear seat speakers. The rear hatch speaker seemed to be in a small bass box powered by a mini amplifier.

When switching out the head unit and speakers, I used the $7 wire connector to attach the new head unit wiring onto to the orginal wiring. Then I just replaced the front speakers with my Sony Xplods. I placed one speaker in each of the opening by the rear seats. That was done by following the rear speaker wires from the head unit to where ever they were orginaly located. The wires were then spliced for each rear seat speaker.

As for the rear hatch speaker, I have that connected too. I just connected a separate wire to the the left speaker connections and to that speaker and now it works fine.

On my car you can see that the wires are labeled on the original wiring. Such as rt. rear (-), rt. rear (+), and so on.

I hope this helps and is not too confusing. If it is, sorry and I hope you get the help you need.

I'm refering to the adapter that is used with ONLY the bose system. Yes, I am fully aware of the $10 plate that is needed for mounting and $7 harness you are talking about for the average HU installation. The plate is not what I am asking about. I was asking about the harness. With the bose systems, each speaker is powered by it's own amp which runs at 1 ohm. The normal aftermarket HU can only handle a 4 ohm load. The $50 harness I would need (and you would need if you were using the factory speakers) is what makes you able to use any HU with the factory bose speakers. Otherwise the HU would fry. I'm just going to wait till i get me new speakers so I can use the $7 harness instead of the $50 one. BTW, crutchfield sells the $50 one. I also heard it was junk.

Oh ok. Yeah, just wait for the speakers. Either way, the aftermarket speakers you get will be better than those Bose ones (at least mine were). Have fun and good luck.

I believe the adapter your refering to is what adapts the aftermarket unit to the bose speakers and rear "sub". It is necessary unless you do new speakers.

Screw the crappy puny stock speaker wires and run new ones. Then you won't need a junk overpriced connector to clutter up behind your dash
