2 12 inch Type-R speakers with Apline's 8000C amp....expected decibals?
SubscribeI'm going to a circuit city near me today that is closing. The 2 things I'm looking for is the Audiobahn 800 watt A8000T amp. The other is 2 12 inch Type-R speakers. I'll be taking my back seat out and having someone fiberglass the box in my car with the 2 speakrs and two amps. Does anyone know what type of decibal rating I should expect? I'm hoping for 140 or more, but I could be way off. I already replaced the front and rear speakers, and removed the factory sub which started going bad.
I'll let everyone know how much I pay for everything incase you want either of those products yourself.
I know the Alpine amp at CC costs $314 and the speakers are $170. With employee discount, I can get 2 of the speakers for $240. Haven't checked on the amp yet. Hopefully when I go to the CC that is closing, the prices will be about 30-40% off. They also said with the closing/clearance prices, they WILL allow employee discounts.

Dunno if this is helpful or not, but I found alot of stereo stuff online at www.ikesound.com
They have your amp for $179 and your subs for $100 each.
Plus, no tax, just shipping.
Good luck either way.

Well guessing spl is like trying to guess how many coins are in a 1 gallon jar.
I'd say 143db if you're playing nothing but a test tone......and prolly 138-139 db for playing regular music.
I'd say 143db if you're playing nothing but a test tone......and prolly 138-139 db for playing regular music.just ordered my two Type-R 12's and Audiobahn A8000T amps. Total shipped to my door was $747 (shipping was almost $100).
$100 Type - R (2)
$179 A8000T (2)
Also I got the Audiobahn Cap for $95 which I hope works good for my system. Once everything is bridged and installed, I'll be running a consistant 2ohm setup running 800 watts to each sub.
Rating on the sub are 300 watts RMS but can handle 1000 (i've also heard 1500). but with those amps, i'll be able to push 800 watts so i know it won't blow b/c of hitting peak. but it will be close enough to seriously make my head hurt.
ps-anyone have good components for the front and some great oversized 6 1/2s in the back? if so, what are they and what amp are you using? I need to get this soon b/c I'm having that amp installed on the fiberglass box i'm having built as well.

u wont see 140 probably...i have 4 12" alpine type R subs in my car...trust me, get two more alpines, make sure they are the 4 ohm ones and run one 8100d mtx amp.......it puts them right at the rms and when cranked....slightly over....but ya, i tested @ 142.8 at a frequency of 40.......if you know anything about competition, normally u test around a frequence of 80, so i was hitting really low, i was supprised i still hit 142.8! if ya want any help IM me @ mrcleatus0603 on aim.
good luck

I don't think I've ever seen anybody use an 80Hz test tone. Usually 50Hz range. Tell me more about the box. And was that your highest SPL of the day? Regardless of freq.? True, 40Hz is pretty low for SPL testing, but 142.8db isin't very good at all for four 12"s. I just took out my three 10"s in a small sealed box powered by 1kWRMS. I was doing 145.2db @53Hz. Just trying to help you out. You should be in the 150's easy.Originally posted by mrcleatus

White Z, why are you removing the rear seats? I would advise against putting your subs there. What's wrong with under the hatch? There are many choices out there for you, even if you have t-tops. Next, how much you looking to spend on components? Judging by the gear you just bought, I would recommend the Focal Polyglass line. Should be able to find them pretty cheap off Ebay. If you can afford better, step up to the 165K2P's. VERY nice set indeed. And since you already are using Audiobahn for the sub amps, I'd keep the name the same.

dB all depends on Box design, tuning, and efficency.... Hell Kicker too a single 8" subwoofer over 150db as a challenge from another internal division that said it couldn't be done...
I see so many people talking about SPL, and then I see them just thrown into any old enclosure, or make a 1/2 assed un-tuned, un matched enclosure. For SPL, and SQ matching the enclosure WILL make or break a system... PERIOD...
I've seen the same speakers, one pair in a bad box running 2x the power of the other pair in a matched box... the Matched box beat the un-matched by over 10db... not to mention sounding better to the ear by almost 100 fold...

well to start, i have a dodge avenger, so its next to impossible to get 4 12" woofers in the trunk! but ya, i have no dynomatting and the subs arent at all maxed, but its not all db, air movement is also key, i use to have a crown victoria, and i shattered the front window....so ya they hit hard.......but on the frequency thing, i just tested them, ive never been in a competition, although i plan to enter in the spring......high 50's is still really low...you loose alot of pressure, but it all depends on the woofer and the enclosure, what subs do u have?

Ok, first, you're on an f-body forum. So I just assumed you owned an f-body......
Ok, now there are way too many variables for me to comment on your SPL score. However, I still don't see you shattering the windshield of your Crown Vic. And high 150's is NOT low for four 12"s. Especially, if they're in a trunk. I was using Fosgate Punch HX2's. They were in a small (.75cuft each) sealed box made of all 3/4" MDF. I went with Adire Audio for this next setup. In a half fiberglass, half 3/4" Hardwood Birch box. Powered with 3.2kWRMS. Should be nice.

Actually that is pretty low, but that's due to thembeing in small sealed boxes.. I bet if they were in large tuned ported boxes you could hit a LOT higher... but the SQ would get quite bad...

With what, a hammer?
I've heard of this happening, but never seen it.. It's very doubtful that one amp (how are you running it?) and four 12" subs are gonna break anything.. I know mine -- two RF 800A2's and four DVC 10's isn't (at 151 db) close to breaking anything.. That's more power (admittedly, less cone area), in a car that's easy to create SPL in.. There's also a firebird here with four big Xtant amps driving four 12's... It hasn't been metered, but it's quite a bit louder than mine.. All his windows are still intact..

from what i have been reading in this thread has me dumbfounded.....
For those that have done much testing on their F Body you will notice that 45-50 Hz is ideal for SPL. You want to play just below resonance (51 Hz with the subs in the rear well). I have learned that a lot of people tune too high and that In an F Body a 45 Hz box tune is ideal (with the box in the well)....
Shattered a windshield in a Crown Vict..... not unless there was a weakness in the glass.... otherwise i call BS.

update:
Ordering the custom camaro box but choices have come up again. They make two versions. One has 3.00 Cubic feet and the other is 1.80 cubic feet. I'm calling later to see if the 3.00 box can be ported (obviously b/c I want to hit lower). But that is the new plan, to have either a ported box or sealed box but either way, they are pre-made and made to fit in the hatch area. I just purchased the tsunami 1200 watt power kit with 2 distribution blocks (came with kit). Going to put that in today and probably clean out the hatch part and start removing the carpet. I'm going to recarpet the rear once the box comes in so it all matches.
Then in like 2 months, the guy is going to fiberglass the entire box in (keeping in mind I have to still get to my taillights bulbs). We will figure it out once the time comes.
