1997 am/fm cassette to later non Bose am/fm/cd
1997 am/fm cassette to later non Bose am/fm/cd
My 1997 SS has an AC Delco (non Bose) am/fm cassette. I was wondering if a later AC Delco (non Bose) am/fm/cd unit would be a plug and play replacement. My goal is to get CD playing capability in my 97 SS in the least invasive way. TIA.

...or, if you want to spend a little more, you can update your '97 with all the modern technology of a Double DIN head unit with all of the modern features of a new car:

Thanks. If it is possible will just go with the AC Delco non Bose unit for ease of install. Just want to be able to play CD's in the car.

There was a CD/Radio (UNO) also offered in 1997 and according to the service manual, both the Tape/Radio (ULO) and CD/Radio were wired the same. The connector pin out diagrams are also the same as 1997 for both radios in 1998.
Re: 1997 am/fm cassette to later non Bose am/fm/cd
97-99 models were graphite in color
00-02 models were ebony
97-99 CD radios cant control the stock 12 disc changer (some 99s can).
All 97-02 cassette radios should be able to control the stock 12 disc changer.
Before I went Double DIN, I had a cassette head unit and 12 disc changer in my 98. I wanted CD in the dash, and Im **** enough that the colors had to match, so I bought an 00-02 CD head unit, and a 97-99 CD head unit and swapped faceplates so that my CD head unit was now graphite AND could control the stock 12 disc changer...
