Will there be both a C7 Z06 and ZR1?
With the new LT1 putting out LS7 like tourqe and the rumors of there being no larger engines it seems like the Z06 might be dead. What engine would fit in between the supercharged or turbo LT1 in the ZR1 and the 460HP Stingray engine?
Z06 was always the lighter car, but the Stingray already has the aluminum frame. I just don't see a Z06 with the C7. |

I thought the ZR1 was a one time sort of deal.

I have a feeling that the LT1 might have some more in it if you go for performance instead of efficiency. The jump from the L99 to the LS3 is a good indicator. Give it a Z/28 style treatment (maybe not as extreme) and there's your Z06. The ZR1 will stay with the all out power, full interior and features.
If they do come out with a Z06, its going to be a handling monster. The Z51 is already pulling 1.11G in MT's skidpad tests. The last Z06 was "only" pulling 1.08G. |

LT5 maybe? Or would that be best for the next gen ZR1?
I think it is very cool how close the LT1 torque curve is to the LS7's. |

Its been 17 years since the last LT1. That's about the same amount of time between the original LT1 (sold from 1970-1972) and the last LT1 from (1992-1997) - 20 years difference.

Yes interesting points. Even with the aluminum frame the C7 is heavier than the C6. So a lighter Z06 would likely require either removal of content or using lighter and more expensive materials.
I haven't heard the rumor that the largest displacement Gen V engine is already out at 6.2L. There are certainly options to built up an LT1 internals and make it a very potent engine without increasing displacement but a new "427" has a nice ring to it. |

Using the same name within 20 years is stupid and unnecessary. It's not like the 90s LT1 is revered or anything. I had a '95 Z28, and I haven't been pining away for any "new LT1". tl/dr: LT1 = dumb name for the new engine. |

You know I actually typed it with the dash and it got lost somewhere when editing.:p
