Who will be the first domestic maker to sell a 600HP car
What US make do you think will break the 600HP first.
I think Dodge will be the First with a 600HP Viper. But it could be the Ford GT now that it has a twin screw blower and supercooler.
On the GM side I think a Escalade V series will be the first GM "car"

Either Dodge with the rumored 600hp Hemi Viper or Ford with the GT.

Z28x,
Technically speaking this has already been done...
...For those thinking "What the Hell is that?" it's the Vector W8 (this one's a '93 I think...) - The all-but-forgotten American-built supercar...
Powered by a twin turboed, all aluminum 6.0 liter Chevy V8
More
It's amazing how fast information about this car is disappearing from the web - it has an interesting history...

My knee-jerk reaction is to say Dodge via the Viper. Chrysler has the most testosterone driven performance division at the moment (The already quick Neon SRT-4 is even quicker for 2004!).
But John Colletti now has even bigger backing from Ford via a bigger budget & resources from Ford's Performance Division, freedom to expand SVT to more cars, a green light to make monsterous Mustangs and a blank check to make the Ford GT the quickest, fastest car made in the US.
If he even smells Viper moving to 600 horsepower, no telling what he'll come up with for the GT!

I find it interesting that the majority of the votes have gone to Dodge, the same company that has been the subject of discussion regarding the lack of exciting cars since the Daimler merge. Is this due to the reputation of 'Old Chrysler' to actually produce gutsy, on the edge, vehicles, regardless of horsepower.
In other words, are the votes there due to reputation from past bold decisions? That's pretty much why I voted them.

Now that they got the HP# down pretty high... you think there's any chance we'll see high powered light weight sports cars in the future? Like a 2500 lb 400 hp RWD sports car? It'll have almost the equivalent hp/weight ratio of a 3000 lbs 500 hp sports car, and do everything better, except for maybe top speed.

Z28X,
Maybe you should have included "mass produced" in your question. Vector W8 certainly doesn't fall into that category....neither do SEMA cars.
ZL1 won't come out right away. Everyone is saying 500HP for the GT. Viper, though, has a reputation for going all out on HP. If I was a betting man, I'd bet Viper.
