I think not having the coupe in that segment did hurt a bit, especially as striking a design it is.
However, I think the big problem might be that after you get past the great styling, it's an average performing car (the GT I drove didn't garner any mental double takes). It caught up to the competition but didn't really surpass it in enough, if any, areas.
It's really too bad because because I though between the large sunroof, striking coupe profile and hard top convert they'd hold their own until power and handling got sorted.

Its simple
Grand Am = midsize with at times compact pricing
Grand Am was a car I think alot of people bought simply becasue it was downright cheap at times with rebates , even the GT's . How many folks do you think bought a Grand Am on price alone .
As large as the midsize segment is , I dont see how Pontiac couldnt have seen that one coming .

I think someone touched on a big problem for it in another thread. If you want to get the decent options, you have to go to the GT and the V6. It doesn't work like that for the Accord.
