I don't know if GM is nothing more than a jobs program or not, but I do know that Jim Cramer is a dumbass.

Jim Cramer also said buy Bear Sterns in the weeks before they collapsed.

edit: He is a smart guy, but nothing he says on TV should be taken seriously. He is just a mouth piece for Wall St. and an industry that doesn't make wealth, they just take it from other industries by shuffling paper around.

He said to buy it months before hand, the week before hand he simply said don't sell it.

Not that I don't think he's a moron.

God, I'd love to put that guy in Guantanamo for life with Michael Moore for a cell mate.

Funny how he praises Ford so much and Toyota when they are both still losing money. Ford has the UAW and Toyota has over 58,000 unionized employees in Japan.

So when he says: Name one unionized company that is succesful? There you have it, I just named 2!!!

The guy is an idiot.

Ford isn't exactly succesful. They have been burning cash for a while now. Also, I believe that he was referring to American companies, so Toyota is gotcha as well.

The honest truth is at this moment, he's right. The point of running a business is to make profit and return value to the owners. GM hasn't made money and DEFINITELY hasn't returned value to the owners for the better part of a decade.

Can this change and GM be more than a welfare for the UAW & suppliers? Sure.

And that is why they went Ch. 11. Hopefully they will pull a Kmart and be buying up the competition in a few years.

(actually I don't hope that, I just want them profitable, they don't need anymore brands)

I like Jim Cramer. He has a point about GM, but I hope that changes sooner rather than later. I also dont like his view on GM when thestreet was saying wagoner was just burning up cash. That burning investment I have to believe is Camaro, CTS, Enclave, and a bunch of other vehicles that the company needed to be relevant.

Cramers advice and ALOT of luck, from his book on CD helped me spot a top and I moved my ENTIRE 401k and moved it to cash funds in the market when I was grumbleing about most of CNN who were wondering how high S&P and the market could possibly go, and what records could be set. Unfortunately Cramer didnt exactly take his own advice and was still recommending stocks that didnt make sense to me at the time before the crash, so I dont think hes any genius either. I still think he has some solid ideas though.

I don't really know much about Jim Cramer but I think he is right. I continue to believe that "helping" GM was never, or will ever be, about the success of the company, but about jobs, and even better, votes. The faster GM can get out from under the crushing hand of the government, the better off they will be. I fear that won't be for a long time.

I worked there for years. Installed thousands of robots/ automation. Salary Eng. Worked alot on the factory floor between union and mgt. Spoon feeding Info @ all hours of the day/ doubles/ weekends and holidays. Many plants & on the road for years on various vehicle launch.

Alot of union skilled trades bumping going on, and, job banks people with no aptitude or skills to do the work. It was a very difficult life. Also, there were line workers that would purposly slow the line by not loading parts w/in production cycle time. We installed robots as replacement (bin picking - load from racks to remove people), but, trades would change the robot speeds and program velocity to slow the line. They were incapable of floor trouble shooting and maintain of the equipment/ sensor tuning. Line workers and trades were very connected thru their socialist brotherhood.

I saw it, lived it, worked it. I think, most people on the left coast, east coast, south have a negative thing about the union. The union is used as an excuse not to buy the American brand by John Q. public. This perception continues, and, I don't see it going away. But, I am very troubled with the question of buying a foreign made brand (can't do it). US mfg is done, but, I did live the 60's and loved it. I still love the American cars (I usually notice there is a Amercan-foreign no-mix @ the various car meets). B.
