VF Commodore / Chevy SS Reveal

Re: VF Commodore / Chevy SS Reveal
It was the mandated front bumper impact speed of 5 miles per hour which kept the GTO from being sold here as a new car. That has since been relaxed to 2.5 mph and is in line with US standards.

Re: VF Commodore / Chevy SS Reveal
Well this should pretty much be the SS:

At this point I wonder if the SS will deviate much beyond the grille and tail lights %u2014 I think it needs a tad more sculpting on the sides to emphasize the sporty aspirations, but not so much as the Camaro, maybe even (more of) a power dome on the hood would help. Guess we'll see this weekend.

Relax, I'm sure there will be a manual option in an as yet unannounced high performance trim line, like SS,... oh wait a minute...

Re: VF Commodore / Chevy SS Reveal
Not bad, but not impressed.
The car doesn't look like a Chevy. It shares no design language with current NA Chevrolets. They could have at least put on an Impala-esque front end.
The G8 looked like a Pontiac. Why doesn't the SS look like a Chevy?
And the back end looks kinda like a Buick.
And why no manual trans? You can get a stick in a Verano turbo but not a Chevy SS?

Re: VF Commodore / Chevy SS Reveal
Obviously they put the least amount of effort into this as they possibly could. That would explain the styling since that is what Holden came up with. The lack of a manual absolutely baffles me though - all the parts are there.
Maybe if we complain enough we can get the manual later like BMW does for the manual M5 only available in the US. If nothing comes of this I'll have to look for a used CTS-V.

Here's something interesting - we could get the wagon. The Ute is dead though.

Former Holden boss and now General Motors North America chief Mark Reuss has left the door open for the VF Commodore wagon to join the sedan in the USA, where it is sold as a Chevrolet SS.
But the bad news for American ute lovers is that Australia’s answer to a two-door sports car isn’t headed overseas.
Reuss ruled out importing the ute to the US because it would too hard to price and position the ute alongside the SS sedan, which is being pitched as a premium performance car.
“It’s a little bit late for Ute,” Reuss said. “[But] some people think it would really a really cool thing to do.”
Crucially though, he didn’t say the same thing for the Sportwagon, saying there is space for it to be sold at a premium above the sedan, which would make it more viable.
“It’s not too late for the wagon,” Reuss said.
General Motors had originally planned to sell both the ute and wagon in the US during the Pontiac G8 program and it is understood all the engineering and design work was done. However, the global financial crisis forced GM to kill off the Pontiac brand and axe the G8 ute and wagon imports.
