Do you think this would do well here?

Honestly, if we were to ever get a truly compact pickup it would most likely be car based like this. More aggressive styling with less cladding would be welcome.

94 HP, 144 lb/ft 4 cyl Turbo Diesel. FWD. 1400 lb carrying capacity, 2200 lb towing. 50+ mpg. 0-60 mph in 13 seconds (not a typo). Top speed 99 mph. Estimated stateside price of ~$12k for no option version, almost $17k loaded (again, an estimated guess by the writer).
No length, height, width, etc numbers.

I wonder if the Fiat Strada could fit the new Diesel that GM Daewoo and Fiat codeveloped. It's the same diesel in the new Colorado. That engine would change this small truck quite a lot.

Then again I liked the reg cab 2wd 4cy s-10's to me they were a good size: is my Z-71 more comfy well hell yeah but for basic truck the s-10 wasn't bad. Fuel economy was pretty good with the 5sp also.

How does that Fiat compare in size to the Holden Ute? The milage numbers are great, but it seems seriously underpowered. If something like that offered 40mpg in return for more acceptable power levels, I could see it being a popular affordable option.

Torque sits at 148 pound-feet between 1,500 and 3,000 rpm, and that's plenty of heat for this 2,833-pound utility pup.

My brother bought the VW Touareg TDI because of its 7700 lb towing capacity. I would imagine that any mid-size turbo diesel V6 truck would have similar, if not better capacity.
