Skyline.. sweet car, when will we see it?
I dont know much about this car, but when I used to own this car, I really enjoyed driving it until I got the new car fever and had to trade it in for something faster... of course Im talking about when I had it in Grand Turismo 3 for the PS2,
but hey, even then it was fun to drive and handled great... anyways... I seem to be seeing it more and more in magazines and such. Does this mean that it may be on its way to the U.S. ? Because I would like to see these up close and maybe get one of my own.

I think the GT-R is still a few years away--it'll have to wait for the next iteration. I don't know if it'll be based off the Skyline (G35) or be more similar to the concept displayed on the auto show circuit last year. If/when it does arrive, expect a hefty price tag in or above Corvette range: 50-75k.
Here's my prediction on the Skyline:
Figure that the new Skyline will be built on the G35/350Z platform. The new Skyline will probably run a boosted 3.5 v6 derived from the same engine inside of both cars right now. Now I'm guessing intoduce a high end Corvette Coupe performer, Nissan will boost the 3.5 v6 in the 350Z in about two model years after the hype starts going away. Since the Skyline will share this engine, it would make sense that to save on developmental costs, they would build and import the Skyline a year after the Turbo Z as a supercar. Leave the 350Z to take on the Corvette or GTO. So I'm going to guess...MY 2006 or 2007 on the Skyline.

I may be mistaken, but I thought Iread that the new Skyline might be coming over with a V8 but still retain the awd system in the current models. Either way, the prospect of a Skyline being sold here is good news.

I would kill for a R-34 GTR in Deep Marina Blue.

Skyline!
I don't know. The skyline is good, but not that good. Atleast performance wise.

Yes, Skyline > Z06. The Z06 is a sweet car, but it cant touch AWD, AWS computer tuned suspension along with a twin turbo V6. And the looks! MEAN!!

Styling and looks are both subjective so i'll give you that. IMO, the skyline's do look mean, but they also look bland and sedan-ish. It's also a tad bit on the boxy side. It still looks nice but nothing like the lines of the japanese NSX or the american Viper or the Italian exotics.

When I was last in Japan in 1997, the Skyline cost the equivalent of $70,000 in twin turbo AWD form :eek" . Last I checked, a Z06 was just a hair over $50,000.
If you have 70Gs burning a hole in your pocket, then great, but I suspect 99% of us don't.

I love the Z06, but I love me some skylines a whole bunch more!

Well, I dont have $50,000 either. My point was that overall, the Skyline was the more advanced car. Straight line performance will go to the Vette 9 times out of 10, but get on an AutoX track or do some everyday country road driving through hills and twisties and I bet the Skyline wins.

I like Skylines too, they are Japan's equivalent to our Mustang (a step or 2 from being a national icon).
But give me a Z06 & $20,000 and I suspect I could come up with something competitive.
After hearing all this skyline hype, I read up a bit on them.
205.8 kw / 276.0 bhp @ 6800 rpm
Curb Weight 1666 kg / 3673 lbs
1/4 in the high 13's
So straight line performance they're nothing special, and this is what you're spending $70,000+ on?
Why does it weigh 3600lbs? Before you say AWD, why is the WRX still 2900lbs?
This car is like a slight step up from a WRX, and will probably be pretty equal to the Lancer Evo VII/WRX STi.
The Skyline has attained Myth status, because no one ever sees a real one and they hear how badass they are all of the time.
Me? I'd buy about 100 different cars before the skyline...
Hell, if I wanted handling, I could buy an M3 and pocket myself 30K. I'd also have a faster straight line car, and a BMW.
Oh wait, we're paying for the prestige of having a Nissan?
No thanks. I'll pass on the Skyline. I hope it comes out in the US just so people stop wishing it will come out in the US, and get a bit of a reality check about the damned thing.

Two main reasons for the weight difference between Skyline & WRX.
1st, Skyline is RWD based while WRX isn't. Anytime you take a RWD-based car and have an AWD version, it will be heavy.
2nd, of course, is they are different sizes. Skyline is about the size of the upcomming GTO (Skyline is also sold in Austraila) but lower. It also has twin turbos and all that extra piping, and unless I'm wrong, twin intercoolers as well.
You bring up the exact reason why Skylines haven't been imported & sold in the US by Nissan to date. A combination of being extremely expensive, lousy fuel economy, performance that isn't much above lower cost performance cars available here, and just simply poor sales.
Before some Skyline fans call foul, keep in mind that the HiTech Mitsubishi AWD 3000GT failed here, and it was one third the price of a Skyline. Also, don't forget the 2wd Hitech & expensive Supra, the old RX7 and the old Z.
Though some of these cars are popular with the import crowd today,
no one, especially the import crowd of that time (and today), had nearly the money to buy one new. However, a version the restyled one is slated to be imported here, though it will likely have an V8 from the Infinity.
