I didn't know they were out, but so far this week I've seen at least 6..... in the "Tree Hugging" San francisco Bay area!
The NEW Tahoe finds itself suddenly the best selling large SUV in the country.

Not a surprise. If i were looking for a full sized SUV, it'd be tops on my list (actually, it'd be my one and only real consideration).
And it's fairly fuel efficient for what it is. 2wd versions are getting 16city and 22mpg (15/21 for 4wd)....better than my compact Jeep Cherokee with its smaller I-6. Pretty impressive and better (especially the highway figures where it blows competition like the Toyota Sequoia away by 4mpg!) than any other fullsized SUV on the market. I think for many, this alone will be a selling point considering that fuel costs are the primary reason behind the decline of large SUV's. The fact that it is very solid and nice inside and out out also helps. Overall, a big homerun for GM.

Nice unit. Sure hope it generates the cash GM needs.
Was the OLD Tahoe not also the best selling large SUV in the country?

One thing though. "Tree Hugging" only really applies to SF itself. The rest of Bay Area is actually pretty industrial. That goes for both the place and the mindset.

I am really impressed with almost every aspect of the new Tahoe...
So much so that maybe I'll end up being happy that I got the wife a new vehicle instead of myself when I turned in the GTO.... maybe I'll be happier if I still end up with an Avalanche, but a GMT-900 Av instead of the GMT-800.... especially since the interior was such a sticking point for me on the GMT-800 Av....

But you are right. Once you get out of San Francisco (as well as Berkley & Napa), the Bay area isn't as "out there" or anti-car as it's reputation suggests. The opening scenes of the "side show" of "2Fast 2Furious" could have easily taken place in Oakland, San Jose, or Santa Rosa.

The 800 series Tahoe is the best selling full sized SUV in America.....the 900 should continue that tradition.
....pleased to see all the positive comments on it!

Tahoe has been the best selling "large" SUV for the past few years - though 2006 YTD sales are indeed up bigtime (over 50%) so far. As an FYI, Trailblazer is outselling Explorer by about 10%.
On the other side of the news, The F-series is up 7% so far this year, while Silverado is down about 7%.
