Should the 5th Gen have a retro interior or a modern interior?

With all the talk about the exterior styling around here, the interior styling seems like something that needs to be talked about. What do you think, retro or modern?

I'm starting to not mind a retro body but the interior has to be modern. I hate the '05 Stangs interior retroness.

Pandamonkey 03-21-2004 08:31 PM

Definetly modern.

I find the 69's dash leaves a lot to be desired........
Wood grain with square gauge clusters.......:yuck:

Modern, the whole car modern. With some cues.

Modern, 100%. GM is getting way better at making quality interiors and they cant stop now by going back and doing a retro styled design to match the outside. Give it a very sporty set up with full guages. Good quality seats, plenty of room too. And I like the idea of like the Malibu and Equinox's sliding rear seat. That could help out fantasticly with rear seat room if there is a problem with that.

I wouldnt mind some retro cues, but definetly modern.

remember that digital dash idea I brought up a while ago?;)

I'd like to see modern styling with a retro flare. Perhaps incorporating the 67 deluxe interior accent striping into modern highback leather seats. :D

wow, that pic is pretty cool. What car is that from? Other then the "SHIFT!" icon, its pretty damn nice. Id like to see oil and voltmeter guages.

I dont remember what car I borrowed that from... ill try and find out. Oh, I did a lot of changes to it... I added the digital speed and tach readouts, the shift light (mspaint in 10 seconds, so poor quality) and a few other things.

And hey... voltmeter, oil, and all that other stuff is very easy to fit into a digital dash. Thats the glory of it.

theres the thread, and the car was a mercedes

This one is a no brainer. Modern all the way. Retro interiors seem to come off much worse than retro exteriors. How is GM going to try to shake off the low-tech/old image that some have of the Camaro when the interior looks 30 years old.

Why I think my idea of a digital dash is a good idea:

-It would be probably be expensive and therefore must be optional
-It would make import loving magazines drool
-It would be very interactive: for example, YOU set the rpm for the shift light. Also maybe put a connector for a laptop, so you could record passes at the track, and what all your gauges were reading as you ran the down 1/4.... and then be able to watch what shift points / launch rpm got you the best results. Maybe even upload your own custom faceplates to it with your laptop... (ok thats dreaming) Hey, everything else these days interacts with computers, why not cars?
-You can get a ton of info in a small space
-You would have digital and analog readouts
-If it were an LCD it would glow, and be very easy to read/see
-with todays engineering, it would be very fast, reacting almost instantly to rpm changes.

Sorry I just like my idea a lot:D :p

an all digital dash is too... 80's?
I would like guages with some digital read outs or a digital drivers screen giving information like oil and battery voltage. But I would still like to see guages.

All of that would be really cool. BTW the custom faceplates could be a good idea to be a leader, instead of following everone else. Obviously no one HAS to:thumb:. The only down side I could see would be overcoming the bad image that digital dashs have received.

It was an acura interior, look at my post right before yours (joelius) in that thread u linked to. the url goesto an Acura TSX guage cluster.

One prob with having a completely lcd guage cluster is sun glare. You get that and ur somewhat screwed. It there was a way to prevent that itd be cool. Also would have to figure out how to do the customizable guages.come with 5 and switch a button or something.

Personally i would go with mixed. normal tach, etc. digital readout for other stuff
