Possible '07 Cobra engine news....

The '07 Mustang Cobra (or whatever it's called...maybe SVT Mustang)...may not be supercharged.

Ford may be considering a normally aspirated version of the GT's (40)...5.4 engine. Even normally aspirated....the reported power target is in excess of 450HP.

The next SVT Mustang (Cobra replacement) won't be supercharged.

I have a feeling Ford will be holding the blower for something even more exclusive this next round.

The blower caused the hood to be too high and not legal in some states. Thus no blower. Cobra won't go back to the 4.6L S/C motor...you heard it from me

Edit: Just to clarify, the 5.4L won't be blown in the new Mustang...the 4.6L 4V S/C (as we know it) will not return in the Cobra.

Will it be in any Mustang. About a year ago, the rumor was that a detuned version would be in the Mach1.

What's the latest?

You don't mean base V6 models.

The V8s just worked out that way. Chevy had 307s when Ford had 302s. Ford also ran 351s to Chevy 350s, 390s to Chevy's 396s, and 428s to Chevy's....396s.

So who's going to buy it?

Certainly not the current batch of Cobra owners.

Whoa! Where are all the people who sweared that 500hp or more will find its way in the Cobra? Whatever...

Oh well, so much for all this hype about a GT powerd Mustang Cobra.

Based on my observations, '03/'04 Cobra owners are enthusiasts who know what they have. These aren't the buyers who buy the "cute little one on the end", they realize the credentials of the car.
I think Ford is making a big mistake if, in fact, they do not offer a forced induction powerplant in the '07 Cobra. The existing car is already making 410-420hp, a 30-40hp bump isn't going to draw much excitement from us when a pulley/tune will put an '03/'04 at 450+rwhp with stock exhaust.
There would have to be some overwhelming features to sell that car to many '03/'04 owners, IMO.

Anyway...this is all speculation until they hit the street.

I wouldn't hold my breath seeing that setup again. If anything a 3V version with s/c, but I doubt it. At this time Ford has no reason to s/c any Mustang. I have a feeling the MOD motors may go away in a few short years as far as the Mustang and F-150 are concerned.

While what you say is true for some Cobra owners, I think the majority would rather have a n/a motor with more cubes and/or more power. I'd prefer it myself. Because 450+ HP without s/c is easily 600+ with it

Not to mention the fact that the "new Mustang" should be waay better then the SN95 based one. That should be a pretty big draw.

I just find the idea of a 500hp Mustang crazy. Seems like someone at Ford seriously thinks the Mustang is a natural competitor to the Corvette.

Not to mention the price it would cost. I think it should stay closer to its roots and lower price that it has tradionaly been. The aftermarket will always cater to the extreme horsepower junkies.
