Huh, what do you know, they actually managed to go 2K under the speculated $35K, and not over

Does the GTO come with a sunroof?

What are its options besides interior/exterior color and choice of tranny?

Colour and transmission is all the options you have..

Everything else is standard..

I think the only things missing from the Monaro is..

18 i Wheels
Climate Control
Memory Seats
Rear Parking Sensors
(optional) Satelite Navigation

Kinda lousy that all that stuff comes standard. No way to lighten it up by choosing less options.

Improved exchange rate with Australia over the past year.

I'd opt for the MN12 6 speed, same tranny as the Z06.

Does that include the $1000 fuel consumption tax??? And why is the 6-speed an extra-cost option??? The GTO and Vette are the only cars that do this, and i can't understand it...I seem to remember a time when the auto tranny costs more when ordering cars...

Ya, this is rather annoying..

Even on the F-Bodies, a 6-speed was a 'no-cost' option...

On any other, non-performance car, manual trannies are cheaper, and the auto's cost more.

I think they do this, becuase these types of cars cater to a group of people who must have a manual... (not all buyers, but a lot of people wouldnt consider a Corvette with an auto, for example)... and therefore, they know they can sqeeze more money (and a sizable amoubt at that) out of these people.

They are probably expecting alot more auto's being installed.. so maybe installing a manual is now consider more of a special case? I dunno..

I guess if there isn't any price gouging, and the whole car really is nice, $35 isn't that bad.. considering I've seen f-bod's run up that high before they were discontinued..

The fuel consumption tax isn't a done deal yet for the car, but even if it was it wouldn't be included in the price of the car (it's a tax). Also, the tax is progressive. The GTO tax wouldn't be like the tax on a Viper, or a BMW 7 series, or a Lamborghini. It would probally be on the minimum side.

As far as the 6 speed becoming an extra cost option, it now costs more to certify a manual transmission on some cars than an automatic. Certification is normally spread out over it's sales. Today few people buy manual transmissions, even on Camaros & Mustangs (automatics were no cost options on Z28s not because GM was feeling genorous).

GTO's manual will be an extra cost option because it's expected that perhaps 90% or more of the ones sold will be automatics. To cover the cost of certifying the manual, GM's charging a price for it since it won't be recovered. That's all.

I was guessing that the GTO would be sold about 50/50 auto to manual.

like 70% of Vettes are automatics

I had the same problem when I bought my 2000 SS back in April, it's a buyers market for automatic Camaros. I swear, used automatic LS1 car out numbered the M6 LS1s by 5 to 1

I'd consider getting a automatic if it was a 5 or 6 speed with tap shift
